So has anyone seen/heard of/used these? I was trolling around Alison's last night and came across them and wanted to get them immediately. I was thinking I could use these in place of the sandpaper letters/numbers. What are your thoughts? TIA.

They look fantastic - sometimes kids' fingers get caught on the sandpaper as they trace. These look like they'd given a smooth, unbroken movement.

Cindy - I have them. I thought they were so cool and I wanted something for my older child who still mixes up letters and wants to form them all wrong. She is extremely tactile and I think the numbers in particular have been fun. I get them out when she's doing sums and ask her to check she's got all her numbers the right way round.

They are extremely sturdy and well made and come in a very sturdy box - I think they are really a few steps up in terms of quality from the other products Alison's and the other discount places have, but the price reflects that.

Hello Cindy Mac,
As far as I know, people generally use those materials for special needs children. Unless you have a special needs child, I do not think you would need them. For children who are sensitive to the sandpaper or get hurt, you can rub beeswax over the letters so that they are smooth and enjoyable for those children to follow. Otherwise you could make the letters from velvet.
Blessings

Great tip on the beeswax. This was one of the reasons I went for the tracking numbers - dd hates the sandpaper. She hates velvet, too, though. I tried to make some with glitter glue, but it was so expensive for the tiny tubes of glue I could get here - and I can't ship liquids. They were a bit of a flop really (not one of my finer handmade Montessori moments ) This child needs to "do" before she can internalize, so these have been helpful for her.

These look really cool, and might be helpful to my dgs with his handwriting. Now I'm wondering if I can make something like this...
