I think I've been lurking through the loveliness fairs since they began and I don't think I've seen anything specific to storing and organizing books. I know the topic often comes up - "What to do with all of these books!?" And I've seen some lovely pictures of book baskets on the blogs. But how about a making this subject into a loveliness fair? Here is what I'd like to see:
-children's reading corners w/ bookshelves/baskets
-mom's personal reading shelf/basket/nightstand/desk
-ultra-organized Dewy decimal libraries
-cozy, artistic, stash books here and there libraries
-subject-specific shelves/baskets - Mosaic, FIAR, Rabbit Trails, units, etc
-organization tips, etc
I'm not a blogger so I guess it's kind of a selfish request But if you all wouldn't mind sharing some day.........

Jennie Lou, this is a wonderful idea! I am always looking for ways to organize our books and to create inviting displays, too.
I'd be happy to host this theme at my blog. I'll have to check in with Elizabeth about the fall schedule.
In the meantime here is a post I did last summer about how we organize books in our home. (It's all change since then! )

I've got a pic on my blog, if you scroll down, to our reading loft, It's a tower 12 feet high, filled with books. The books on the upper level are only reachable from the loft, so thats where we keep the non-picture books (like all the classics, Narnia, LOTR, etc.) That way, they don't get trashed by sticky little fingers (only big kids can go in the loft)

Scroll down to "curriculum choices, elementary" for the pic. I realize not everyone has high ceilings for a loft, but it sure makes for a fun reading corner, and a way to keep my more mature books from getting mutilated by babies!
Peace,
Macmom

Thanks for those links. With all my blog reading I hadn't come across those. Great pictures. That will hold me over until a (God willing) loveliness fair!

I love all the toy/book/organizational things which Regina Doman features at House Art Journal. I'm sure everyone here already knows about it, but I stumbled on it relatively recently, and it's one of my much-revisited favorites. She doesn't have much specifically devoted to library/bookshelf systems (that I can recall off the top of my head), but some lovely children's corners.
I'm constantly striving to organize my books better -- working against my entropy-driven mind, but I try! There's a constant battle going on between my husband's theology library, which is sloooowly making its way into our house from storage, as we acquire more bookshelves (off the curb, from people who are moving, etc etc -- we have some funky shelves!), and the expanding homeschooling library. We ALL want to take over the dining room - my 9yo likes to work in there, especially, but all the shelves are theology shelves, so finding places for his books when we need to eat at the table -- like, nightly -- is always a challenge.
So I'd love to see more shelves, too, especially from folks who don't have a designated schoolroom. How do you arrange your books in a designated school HOUSE? Especially when your house is also a designated academic theology library/professor's study? Or something like that . . .
Going to look now at these links!
Pax,
Sally

Jennie Lou,
Thank you so much for the idea. I am not a blogger, and I am definitely in some serious need of getting organized. I would love to see this!!!

Returning after looking at Dawn's link --
OK, I want coffee boxes. Now. That shelf looks great, and I love having the books face out. I had a reading basket like that for my little kids which migrated around the house until it fell apart: it held ten or so tall-but-thin picture books, plus little books in front, like Beatrix Potter. I also have a classroom-type particleboard book rack (which weighs about five tons) which holds books for my littles in a corner by the window, where their rocking chairs also are. I don't have a digital camera, so even if I blogged about it no one could see it, but I love that corner!
I also tend to shelve lots of books, especially picture books, horizontally instead of vertically. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Yesterday I had a lovely visit with Rachel and saw her Rain Gutter Bookshelves. I just sent my dh off to Lowe's to get the supplies. I better get the wall painted before he gets home .
You can find more info on Rain Gutter Bookshelves at the Jim Trelease webpage.

Cheryl had a neat idea to use different colors of duct tape to color code her books and to help the children keep them organized.
Scroll down a bit in THIS post for some ideas.

Okay, my birthday was yesterday, and I got a digital camera, so today I blogged a little about bookshelves. I don't have super-creative shelving ideas like some of you, but we have been kind of creative in carving out space to put more bookshelves, and I like the overall effect of some of our "using wasted space" ideas.
So you can check out all the visual excitement here
