Oh, boy! Another Cajun mom!
Welcome!!!
Be sure to copy and print out Colleen's Seven Steps to a Charlotte Mason Lifestyle. (Remember, it is a lifestyle versus an "education". You have heard the actual talk and these printouts can serve as refreshment on the days you're feeling stressed or worn down.
Do you have Karen Andreola's "CM Companion" and Elizabeth Foss' "Real Learning"? I should have brought my copies this past weekend but didn't think of it.
I've been lapping this reading material up to renew my "Mother Culture".
It's going to be a great year, and I'm so glad you've joined us.

Okay that was my next question--------What books could I get to find out more of this way of learning.
Would you recommend one over the other. I like to read something that is not over my head. An easy to understand book is for me. I am not a big word kind of girl
I am really excited about our school year but just nervous---I am trusting in Our Lord for help.

Hey Cajunpowermom (that's so funny!!!)
I am so glad you made your way here...you will never have an unanswered quesiton about homeschooling with the wealth of knowledge here....yay! Real Learning is one of the best reads about homeschooling I have ever come across. I think I have read it at least twenty times. For me it's sort of like the rosary is to prayer time...when I'm frazzled as a mom and unsure how to undo my chaos, I open it up, read for fifteen minutes and find my peace and a sense of direction. That book and prayer are my greatest tools.

I have to agree with my dear friend Colleen. Real Learning has truly been life changing for me and our family. We always new we would homeschool, that was a non issue, but how? After a year of being super structured, which nearly did me in because I quite frankly am NOT structured! I read Elizabeth's book and it was a breath of fresh air and pure joy! We've never looked back and love what we've come up with for our home and our family. I to reread the book often and can't seem to get much anything done without lots and lots of prayer!

Thanks for posting the link to Colleen's blog entry, Cay. I wasn't there either, but am SO appreciative of everyone sharing their experience, and what they've been blessed to learn.
I'm just waiting to copy and paste #s 6-7, then I can print it all out to read in the evening with a cuppa java!
Thanks again!!

Thanks ladies I appreciate the welcome and the information on the books-----I will have to see if Breath of Life carries the book.
I tried the "you only have to do Math for 15 mins" and the attitude has already decreased--hasn't left but decreased. I am happy about that.
Any suggestions for this issue
Oldest can't read yet so I really need to be right by him to do work meanwhile my middle child is flying through all work i give her and wants More!! "Mommie I want to do more school give me more please" (Not sure I can keep up with more)and then of course theres the baby who just started GETTING into EVERYTHING---He doesn't want to be in the play pen for school time.
I have changed allot and am still changing the way we do school---I am begging the Lord to give me the grace to forget the traditional way of doing things.
Let me know if you have any suggestions

Hey "cajunpower",
If you want to stop by the house sometime, you can look through my school shelves and the books they mentioned, and see which ones you like best.
