Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I got this ad from Sophia Institute Press today about the new book Thy Will Be Done!, 58 letters to troubled souls by St. Francis de Sales.

A few of these hit home: To a pregnant woman, tired, sick, and discouraged, who thinks she doesn’t pray enough

To a woman distressed by her lack of spiritual progress

Sophia seems to reprint many books but changes the title, so I wonder if I already have this book on my shelf, but if not, it looks really, really, good.

Actually I see it's already been in print. So good, can anyone tell me about it?

Jenn,
Yes, this book has been around. I really love it! (Thanks for the reminder! ) His letters are so encouraging and real. What I mean by real is that his advice is attainable.

Not every letter seems relevant to our station in life, but there is still a lot to be taken from them.

I really like this format, the letters written in reponse to specific problems. I have a book about St Claude that is similar.

Hope that helps!

I really love this book Jenn, very helpful. As all of St Francis de Sales books are, this one is very easy read and very helpful. Gives you profound spiritual guidance...I think you would find it enjoyable.

Jenn,

I read this book a year or so ago--it is a nice compilation, full of the usual gems of spiritual advice that Saint Frances de Sales is known for. Most of the letters are written to women, so many of them are relevant to the domestic side of the spiritual life. There are at least three or four specifically addressed to pregnant women, as you mentioned, and I found them to be really lovely and wise.
