We belong to a church on a military base and our one priest, who is in the Air Force, is being transferred to another base. We really like him and he's pretty young, great with the kids, etc. But it's not just that we're losing him, but the AF is not replacing him! They are trying to find a contract priest, in other words, a civilian priest who will come in and take the job. There have been very few applicants and for some reason, the ones that have applied were not accepted. If this keeps up, we will have no priest at all and our church will shut down. I have no idea if RE and all the other ministries and programs will be allowed to continue without a priest or if our entire Catholic community will cease to exist! I can't imagine having to drive off-base to find a church, especially because the area immediately surrounding us is one of DC's worst ghettos. I'm so sad at the potential loss of our church community. I can't imagine a military base just not having a Catholic church.

Please pray that an acceptable priest is found before November! Our church is St. Michael the Archangel, maybe we can implore him for help.

That is just awful! Are you at Bolling? My dh works there and goes to Mass there on Holy days.

There are some really good parishes just across the Wilson Bridge if it comes to that. But I will pray you are able to keep your parish.
