Ok im finally getting over my outdoor walk hebbie jebbies and have been enjoying them.
We are walking home and with out realizing in i step on a caterpiller and it EXPLODES! all up my skirt and underneath my skirt. My leg was coated up to my underwear and my whole back of my skirt is covered in gelationus green goo.
I freaked out at first not knowing what it was then dd discovers "THE CORPSE". She has not forgiven me for squishing it.
We skipped the rest of the walk and went straight home for a shower.
I have yet to venture out again.

I may have exaggerated a little...it runs in the family
It was more of a big squirt than a coat but i did have to wash caterpillar guts from my undies
Im trying to ID it -it was about 3 inchs long and green and bumpy but it was a little hard to tell in its squished state.
Dd is still muttering about me being a butterfly killer and loss of pollinators
no more pbs nature shows for her

Tell her it was probably a tomato hornworm, and a food killer... (they ARE green)..

I'm guessing hornworm too...we hadthese in our garden this year and dh le the kids suck them up with the wetvac and then play with them afterwards. My 6yo bug lover kept them for days and walked around with them stuck all over his clothes and wrapped around his ears. Finally, he got tired of my fussing at him to clean up his caterpillars' poop and he let them go. They did not find their way back to the garden

Can I add an "EWWW" story? Several years ago we were camping at a state park in Georgia. My ds (about 10) discovered snails all over some of the trees. These were very large snails! He was quite fascinated by them and I let him "study" them since we don't have snails of that size in Michigan. Anyway, one day he came to me and said "look mom!" I glanced up and he had taken off his shirt and let probably a dozen snails climb on his stomach, chest and back. Well, I didn't react as a true nature lover I'm sure. My dh had to come and save him as I was about to throw him into the river and take a bar of soap to him. I still get the willies when I think of all those slimy snails. My husband's comment about "letting boys be boys" didn't go over well at the time either!
