August 13th. For no particular reason. I am anxious to start because the worry goes away once our routine begins. Until then I am a an anxious mess. We actually began math and a few other subjects already just to ease back in.

Labor Day. I mean, its not like its much of a "real" holiday...like the FOurth, or Christmas. It's just easier to say "The first Monday in September"...lol. Plus it lets us get in a last trip south to visit my folks before we start to get into the swing of things here at home (we're going to visit them for three weeks in August--I've already got the school work scheduled out for the first month plus...lol--know I'm just pulling together all of the "extras"). That gives me the whole month of September to schedule October. Whew.

I should add that it's just the basics starting tomorrow-Math, Latin, Violin/Piano, some Language Arts and lots of read alouds. All my other books/materials are still in boxes! Once everything is unpacked we'll work in the other stuff.

We're starting August 20.
We get back from a family reunion trip on the 13th. On the 15th, the boys start up the weekly enrichment program they attend from mid-August through mid-May, plus start t-ball and coach pitch that evening. I thought of starting on the 16th . . . but decided the 20th was soon enough.

I was hyperventilating and had decided to start TODAY so I could get a full *perfect* month of schooling in before chaos descends on us in September. Previous years we always proudly start after Labor Day but this year I hit the panic button last week.
I had to sit down with my dh and chat. We looked at dd and all she is doing this summer - the kid is even doing cool math journal activities on her own - and I was able to release my panic and slide right back into summer mode.

Hoping for August 13. Dh goes back to work at his school so it is a good time for us to begin. We can't get much done with him around except wrestling.

We will be getting started on the 13th also. This will be the first time we have ever began before Labor Day, but, this year, Labor Day could take on a whole new meaning for us! I want to get a few weeks under our belts so everyone can adjust to the new routine before baby arrives! We are easing in to our new chore/menu schedule today, and prepping our learning room etc... The next two weeks we will milk all that we can out of summer, starting with a trip to the beach tomorrow, sand buckets, rocket launcher, waterballoons and all!

We started on July 16. My daughter's extra curricular activity is figure skating. It is a year-round, time consuming sport. But the rink was shut down for three weeks to redo the ice. I figured it would be best to start school while she had a break from skating.
It's worked out well having a chance to iron out the schedule while we didn't actually have to be anywhere at a certain time.

We started just reading/writing on July 16.
And I haven't decided when we will begin everything else. It will either be the last week of August or day after Labor day. I'm torn about getting on with a regular schedule, but then we would not feel free to visit with friends....
I'd like to make it an especially nice day with little gifts and muffins and so forth. I guess I need to start planning!

We're starting on August 27th because Dom's soccer class starts that day. My reasoning is that soccer is a fall activity and school starts in the fall, so why not have them start on the same day?

The 13th of August here too. It is the same week that our kids start an enrichment program too (the same as yours, Melanie?).
July just got away from me.

Laura, are your kids going to Eagleridge? Colin starts 1st and Nate starts K there on Wednesdays. Colin enjoyed it last year, and Nate is looking forward to it this year. My only issue is that Colin refuses to eat lunch while there, so he's starving when I pick him up!

We actually started on July 2nd in anticipation of adopting another child this year and taking time off when she comes home.
However, I will NOT be doing this in the future! Having no summer really was a bad idea. My kids love school, love the routine and actually asked to keep going through the summer, but the teacher needs a break!
