Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Love, love, love it! Visiting the museum's website worked great for us - they had coloring pages that I printed out, the kids colored ahead of time and found them during our visit. The day we went, the MIA (Minneapolis) even had people dressed up and playing the part of people in several of the portraits. Very fun!

I would add to keep your visits short and sweet.
Pick a few key galleries and don't overdo.

Let the children "vote" for their favorite painting in each gallery.

Take color pencils and paper and let the children pick out one picture they particulary admire and try to copy it---or even try to copy one DETAIL from it. I always tell my children they're getting a personal art lesson from Velasquez, or Rubens, or El Greco or whomever every time they do this.

Make notecards/stationary out of the aforemntioned drawings. Reduce the size of the pictures and put them on cardstock. These pictures can go in their history notebooks if you keep those (filed by year of the painting) or in children's art notebooks (if you keep that sort of thing---children love going back and seeing their progress in drawing over the years!) Also makes a nice present for Grandparents & Godparents ---and the children are usually pretty proud of their artwork!

Ask the children where the light is coming from in each picture and ask them to explain how they know that.

Count animals in pictures---always a crowd pleaser.

Theresa, we're going to the Louvre exhibit next week. Have you been there yet????? How was it?
