I just ordered 6 pairs of boots for $100. I think that's a pretty good deal.
Black for the boys
Blue for the girls (including me!)
These are for our weekly nature hikes --so we don't have to worry about muddy shoes and wet feet.
I'm so excited - we're going to have a great nature study year!

That's a great idea! My mom brought my boots like this to me a couple years ago (i've had them since college!) and I use them all the time.

Fantastic!!!!They look absolutely perfect and a great deal, too. Proper footwear can make such a difference.
I was worried at first about not being able to bring all our boots up here due to limited packing space, but picked up boots for us all at the thrift shop here for a buck each. Now that is a bargain!

We found boots like these at Wal-mart -- got them for the kids when we go to my BIL's farm in NC -- easy on, easy off and really easy "hose-off"!

You know I don't know why I didn't get them sooner. I've really been thinking about what would make things simpler and this popped into my mind.
Of course last year between being pregnant (and having sciatica pain so bad I could barely walk sometimes) and then having a newborn we did very little in the way of nature study other than what we could observe here at home.
Mary, hosing off is exactly what I had in mind. We keep a hose right by the back door - so that's perfect!

We use these as well Michele! They are a must have around here, I also think they make nature hikes so much more enjoyable.

We also use these!
They come in pink stripes, too, which I bought for myself and yellow daisy ones for dd.

I saw those and I was tempted (gosh they're cute!), but since ours are primarily for our nature walks I want us to blend in somewhat with the surroundings so as not to be too obtrusive to the wildlife.
We barely have a yard so they really aren't needed here - though I am sure getting them OFF my 3 yr. old will be interesting.
I have been a mom to boys long enough to know how they love boots!

We all have rubber boots around here too...my boys would love it if they could wear them to church! A great tip: I bought a $10 metal fold-out bakers rack from Dollar General and put it next to the hose spigot on the covered area of our deck. The boots get hosed off and lined up on the rack and are there waiting the next time we need them.

Wellington boots! I assumed that everyone had wellies. That is what comes of living in a muddy country . I was wondering only yesterday where I could get some small enough for Naomi for next winter. There are some great funky wellies here, but they are all too large.

Michele, your kids could have a wellie wanging competition.

Who knew that a name was given to kicking your boots off to see how far they went?

We just ordered some from Lands End. If you wear a woman's 7 -8 (maybe even 9?) you might want to look at their kids boots. I normally wear a womans 7.5 and I ordered the kids size 7 -- they are really roomy. I guess I should have believed their shoe size chart when it said I would take a kids 6 (if only it worked that way in clothes!)

We call them gumboots over here; anyone know why? I can't help thinking of gumboots without quoting the poem "Rain" by James Baxter
"When I go walking out in town
I lift my umbrella as the rain comes down
I pull on my gumboots and I button up my coat
When the gutters like a river I play there with my boat.
Though the cats run inside and the little dogs huddle
I go splash, splash through the biggest puddle
Till over the hill flies the rain and the storm
and I open my coat as the sun shines warm"
blessings

Boots - we live in them here. They are a favorite; favorite enough to receive as a birthday gift. It's happened a couple of times that someone needed the next size near a birthday and that was one of the presents and oh my gosh, I just remembered I, too, received a pair for my birthday from my DH before we were even married. It was the birthday before our wedding and he bought me rubber knee boots and pearls. What a guy!

Rubber boots are the only thing that my middle son will wear on his feet when we go to Mass, even in the middle of summer. Hopefully, everyone understands.

They are but in that price range I couldn't have gotten the six pair I did. Ours came today and they are great - really good quality too! I feel like I got such a deal!
My 3 yr. old keeps asking if he can wear them. . . and then wants to know "where is the snow?"

Oh good....I was going to ask you if you got them and to give us a report! I'm going to tell my neighbor, who often goes with us into the muddy woods and needs a pair.
BTW, I LOVED all the links from the "wellie wanging" competition link!! One could do a RABBIT TRAIL about Wellington Boots!!!! Who knew the origin of a type of boot could be so fascinating????!!!
