I am looking for a pattern to make a wrap skirt similar to this.

I found this pattern but I didn't know how easy it would be to lengthen a foot or so (I am tall) and if it would fly open like wrap skirts can.

Any other wrap skirt patterns out their??

Thanks for any help...

Betsy,

I bought a great book on sewing skirts a few months ago: Sew What! Skirts. There are directions in there for a half-circle wrap skirt that I really like. You could modify it pretty easily, I think, to make an ankle-length version. And you determine how much overlap you want; I made mine to overlap about 14 inches, and it doesn't fly open at all, especially if I use a heavier fabric. (There is a small typo in the instructions for that particular skirt, though, so pm me if you actually plan on making it and I can save you some time!) Generally speaking, the nice thing about this book is that it teaches you how to make your own patterns for a variety of skirt styles.

I'm also interested in sewing more wrap skirts, so I'm all ears for others' suggestions!

Hope that helps,
Celeste

You were really close to a free pattern on the Sew Mama Sew blog. And its reversible. May was skirt month. The link I gave was for drafting the pattern. At the bottom there is a link for actually constructing the skirt.

There's more info on it here (the next post on the blog)

Christine...
This is exactly the type of thing I was looking for! I can't believe that I missed it at Sew Mama Sew!

Celeste....
Thanks for the book reference. I have it on my wish list at Amazon! I love to read books about sewing, even if I never make anything. I always find some inspiration or new tip.

Have a wonderfull day ladies...I need to buy some fabric!

Oh thank you so much for that link! What a wonderful pattern. I could outfit myself and my two older daughters beautifully with those. I am trying to wear more skirts and dresses, but I am still more comfortable in trousers.
