Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been trying to slowly add M ideas and activities into our household, especially with my little boys. I've got some books in my Amazon cart and I'm looking forward to getting them. I've also been stalking, I mean, checking out some of your blogs, and getting TONS of wonderful ideas from y'all. My question is: Where to start as far as purchases go? I obviously can't set up a full M classroom for the fall, but if you could pick one or two things to invest in to get started and incorporate a M feel, what would they be? We will really be studying geography and world cultures next year, as well as bugs and birds. My kids run the full elementary spectrum down to baby. Thank you!

Hi Marianne!
This is just my opinion, but for me the pink tower is the one material that really represents montessori education so I had to have it! And happily it has been used alot! Also maybe work mats?
I also recommend getting the Montessori-N-Such and Montessori Services catalogs, and maybe Michael Olaf- they have lots of pictures of different practical life and sensorial tray set-ups that you can do with things from around the house.
3-part cards are also pretty easy to print and laminate (or make your own) on the topics you are studying. You can find many of these free online. For geography and cultures you could put together continent boxes (there is agreat thread on that) and maybe get a world map puzzle.
Hope that helps!

Welcome Marianne!! This is the name I used when I lived in France studying (many years ago ) as the French had ALOT of trouble with my name, but I digress, so good to have you here with us and I have to second Andrea's Pink Tower suggestion and the catalogs, I have *lifted* many, many ideas from them and the pictures are very inspiring and useful when trying to locate just the right item for a tray

My dc all really love their size brooms, mops, shovels, rakes, wheel barrow, garden gloves, window washing items, and of course the ever popular squeezing bucket mop that daddy uses to wash the floor!!

One thing to keep in mind is that none of us are trying to replicate a Montessori school in our own homes, just the main ideas and how it fits for each of our families, so there will be alot of variances here!!

Have fun with it and thanks so much for joining us!
