Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used any of these volumes?

They look pretty good, and Ambleside recommends them, they say.

Thanks and God bless,

Hey Clarissa!

I haven't used them, but here's a link to their website where you can pull up samples which might give you a better idea of what they include .... they seem VERY Christian (note that Ancient Egypt is

The first portion covers ancient Egypt, but only briefly, because Egypt's culture was quite pagan and the lessons that can be drawn from its history are especially abstract because they are so protracted. However, the key historical periods and leaders are introduced, and the best (and safest) youth literature is recommended. The intersection of Egypt's history with Israel's is highlighted.

Do you know anyone who has it?? I know a few moms (not local to me) who have talked about it. It sounds extremely protestant to me. I use and modify protestant history stuff all the time, but some of these very sola scriptura oriented programs with bold titles like "Truth" something or other make me squeamish, kwim?

I'm with you Books!

After looking at several table of contents, I can see that she is following Francis Schaeffer's How should we then live? very closely and relying on his "philosophical" ideas.

I have that book. And I spent some time looking at it... Heavy handed pro-Reformation stuff, no historical understanding of the Church, no subtlety about the difference between the enlightenment and Renaissance Humanism. And to top it off, he blames Aquinas! Whom he gets wrong.
So, anyway, I can see this is not the way to go, at least for anything after ancients.

thanks all,
CK
