Talking about "must haves" for after baby is born, what sort of advice can you give regarding PP tummy support? I've never used these, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea this time. There are two different ones that I have found:
here
and
here
What do you think? Any other suggestions?
Because of my first c-section I have a very large vertical incision (it was an emergency). My last baby had to be c-section and this one will be as well (6 more days - woo hoo!!). I'm thinking I'm going to need something to help things get back into shape!

Oh thank you for posting these! I had a c/s with my first daughter and I can TOTALLY see how something like this would be beneficial after surgery. It seems like it would help with going back to shape, but also for comfort. I remember spending a lot of time the first couple of days pushing pillows up to my stomach just so that I would feel like my body wouldn't fall apart!
I wonder if they would be helpful after a "regular" birth as well? I'm looking forward to hearing from some others who may have experience with these sorts of things.
I'm most attracted to the one at Motherwear, because I guess I assume that the Medela one would roll if you bent over? Maybe not, but that seems uncomfortable to have to keep re-adjusting.
Looking forward to some reviews and help from those who have BTDT!

I'm interested too. I'm wondering what the difference is between the Motherwear one and the ones you can find in the lingerie section of regular stores. They look the same.

Get the first one. It will be a lot easier to put on after surgery. I had one of these with my second C-section and I demanded one for my third. It absolutely helps with the pain control! Good luck with your birth!

As soon as you can get your husband or one of the nurses to help you put it on! Preferably before the pain meds start to wear off!

They look pretty much like regular shaping panties that are not specifically made for post partum moms. Im just wondering if it is the same thing. We live overseas and i try to spend as little as possible online. I have a couple of these already so if i could use these instead of buying a new one, that would be great. JC Penney Shaping Panty

I can see how this would be a good idea, but, It looks to me like the motherwear one would roll too? I have a bella band for pregnancy and nursing (to cover my belly when I hike up my shirt) and it rolls when I move around alot.

Hmmm...i was going to get a bella band for nursing. I dont like that it rolls though. I was thinking of this one which is cheaper and basically the same thing.

I have worn one similar to the first (was given it at the hospital and will insist on one if I ever have another csection), and currently am wearing the shaping "under the bra" undies. The ones I have don't roll. And the band thing didn't either (don't know the brand, but it wasn't the one pictured).
I developed a BAD cough in the hospital (it took over a month to go away completely, blech) and eventually I could cough without pain, but still. I wear the shaping undies cause, well, the figure isn't what it used to be. The weight is down, and if I just went by that, I'd be in a smaller size, but because of all of the "leftovers" and stretched out skin, well, I need something to smooth it all down, and make my clothes fit properly...otherwise, I'd need size 16 to fit over the hips, when with the shaper, I'm in a 12.
SIGH.
Rachel (who knows those undies aren't attractive, but DH is deployed anyway)

Just wanted to update what I did about the post partum tummy support. I actually spent so much time researching which to get that I ended up going into the hospital to have Isaac without one. BUT, low and behold, my dr. had actually ordered one for me. Now, this one is standard "hospital issue". My dh calls it a corset! It wraps around my middle and is held there with velcro. It appears to be longer than the one
in the above link, unless that manican just has a really long body.
But, I have to say, I love it!! It helped me to feel so much better about getting up. One of my biggest issues with c-sections is the fear that I am going to rupture something. This helped me to feel secure. Then, when I went home it REALLY helped. Ever been hugged by a rambunctious 3 yo when you have a belly-incision?! Not fun! But this thing is like armor. It really protects.
So, to make a long story short, I would highly recommend the tummy support. And, to second what Elena said, I can't imagine trying to get a pair of tight-fitting under pants on with staples in my belly - ouch!! The wrap-around type is much more do-able.
Oh, and as far as rolling goes, I had no problem with that at all. I'm not sure about the Mother Wear one but the one I got at the hospital is stiff enough that there was no rolling.
Hope that helps for anyone still considering it. I guess asking your dr would be a good idea. Although, I know some wont use them. When the nurse first brought it to me in the hospital she was very apologetic that I "had" to wear this awful thing. I assured them that it was not a hardship at all!

I am using the Babies R Us velcro one and I love it. This is the first time I have used a tummy support - and it really helps - even though I did not have a c-section. The support is great and I can fit into clothes more easily. The only negatives I have is that it gets hot. Also in the first couple of days I took it off when the afterpains were really severe, as I felt too constricted.
Becky - I know what you mean about the rambunctious 3 year old - and I do not have an incision! My guy like rugby tackle hugs - and with engorgement this is sooo painful!!! I was thinking of protective gear!!

Thanks for the updates, Becky and Marilyn, and congratulations on your new little ones! I am due at any point right now, and I need to make a decision about this tummy support thing ASAP. At my last dr. visit, he told me I was 80% effaced, a couple of cm.'s dilated, and that the baby was at +3 station. I new she had dropped, but I had no idea she had dropped that much! I am anxious to know what they tell me this week at my visit. I very nearly did not make it to the hospital with the last one (I arrived a full 10cm), so I am a little anxious.
About the tummy support being hot - I have been needing to wear maternity support pantyhose due to some varicose veins (in my one leg only!) and it has been murder this Summer
God bless and congratulations again!
