or do you all find your families generate an amazing amount of laundry in a days time! I think I am on the verge of throwing everything away and becoming like the Ingall family with 2 dresses each  Please tell me this is not unique to me!

gee, I don't have any idea what you're talking about 
try going on a road-trip for 3 weeks (including days when you have to dress to the 9's) and even tho we did laundry constantly, we STILL brought some home and it took me all the next day to do (and the children had the NERVE to throw MORE clothes in the wash!)
Of course, to be honest, I did bring about 7 pairs of shoes "just in case" and didn't wear at least 3 pairs ... dh says he's packing for me for our camping trip (I think he got a bit irritated when the shoes (mine  ) he stowed under his seat kept scooting out while he was driving ....

Honestly, even when my very big washer is working perfectly, I can't keep up and it's not for lack of trying.
I was thinking about adopting Kristen's philosophy. I keep walking around my house, particularly my clothes areas, and thinking "What would Kristen do? How would Kristen simplify this?"

Hey chicken lady , my God momma from the philpinies had 5 children . they were a wealthy family .yet seemed to only live with what they needed .
they have 5 boys now all adults .she told me 3 airs of pants each and one was for church so really only 2 pairs . same with shirts , shorts etc. just don't have more . maybe a few more in the underwear / sock dept. but thats it keep it simple . now with little girls wholove those dresses well I've only had the boys clothing to look after the last 15 yrs
evenutally the girls clothes don't lessen they just take over the job
we are not down to 3 pairs each but fairly close it does work not to have to much of anything . well accept His love of course

Great link to Kristens's blog! I love the idea about the clothing, but I confess I did try to do this a couple of months ago, and looking at the girls room right now you would be tempted to not believe me
I don't know what to do, I am so overwhelmed with clothing over here, it is such a waste, but when people grow so fast and the change in seasons.........  ARGHHH I cannot seem to wrap my brain around simplyfing!
Oh well tomorrow is another day!

Great link. I like to think we operate on simlicity, and often only have 2 pair of jammies per person, but I am still swamped in laundry. Maybe I need to see if I need to pair down some more. Also, I've noticed that wintertime is the worst because all the clothes are longer and heavier.

Even with few clothes, we find there is a lot of gifting of unneccessary stuff from grandparents etc. I'm never sure how to get rid of it without upsetting the kids.
When we have our 4 outfit/2 jammies/1 Sunday outfit perfection, all our laundry is done in 2 loads a day, washed, dried and put away. Sigh.

How about when you find clean/folded clothes in the hamper...love that  .
OK - a laundry tip that has helped me as of late: I put most clothes on hangers immediately out of the dryer (the other stuff goes into a basket.) I have a wire closet shelf in the tiny laundry room where I hang the hangers. After I have moved the next loads, I take the clothes on the hangers, walk down the hall and hang them on plastic over-the-door hooks hanging on the outside of each bedroom door (doesn't look very pretty but it works.) The children move their clothes to their closets. I take the basket of stuff (socks, towels, etc.) and fold them later while the children do quiet formal work at the table or while I watch Dback games or movies. (I tell the children that if they don't move their clothes to their closet, I will stop doing laundry because I'll have no place to put it - works well.)

We do not have clothing simplicity! We have uniforms (both match uniforms and practice uniforms) from every current team and three boys who are on two teams each. We also have tournament t-shirts from more tournaments than I can remember--when they say "champion" on them, the champion is not likely to want to part with it.We have hand-me-down pjs from the cousins with which the girls won't part. We have way too many play clothes and church clothes for girls. And then, we have two genders of clothes waiting for someone to grow in or out...They're packed away but they still take up space.I have three dresses for next year's Easter hanging in my girls' closet (great deal at Hanna, and I guess it's okay because Kristen shopped ahead for Christmas).
I'm not a clothes horse but I do have more clothes than Kristen. Also, my uncle died a few years ago. He had wardrobes in homes in three cities. He was exactly dh's size. We had a major clothes importation. And I haven't shopped for clothing for dh since. But our closet shelves collapsed under the weight way back in November and dh hasn't had time to fix it. So....I have a rolling rack in my room with overflow from my closet. The rolling rack? It's my dd's ballet rack: four or five costumes a year that we must purchase for recitals. Great dress up clothes, sentimental value....
See? It's not simple...

I can relate .... add husband and sons who hunt and have all this clothing just for that one activity. I have started giving away my daughters' old dance costumes to nieces as birthday gifts. They adore them!

I mentioned this in my talk this past weekend. In my house it's a sign that they have too many clothes. Fewer clothes is far less overwhelming for a child (imagine what it looks like to a child to have piles of things to put away). They WILL think twice before putting clean clothes in the hamper when they only have so much to wear. My kids wear their favorite things over and over again anyway.

I bring down all the dirty clothes on Monday to wash for the week. I try not to add to it on the following days unless it is an emergency. This way I have this feeling that I am finished with the washing, ironing, folding and putting away on Thursday. It is not a never ending cycle! At one point during the week I am finished with the laundry. 
I do keep most of the girls' clothes to pass on to the next one. I really hesitate to give something away, because I don't know exactly what is going to suit the next girl or even fit her in the particular season.
I love the photo of Gianna's closet in Kristen's blog. Our closets don't look anything like that.

Before I moved out of my house and into temporary craziness (read: homeless until August), I did a small load of laundry every day, with the exception of one day when I washed towels and sheets as well. I was so on top of it and now I feel COMPLETELY overwhelmed by laundry!!!! We have been in Kansas for the last 5 weeks (one week to go) living in the DORMS at Benedictine College, where my husband is training to be a FOCUS missionary. Anyway, there is coin laundry here plus my husband changes clothes at least 3-4 times a day and it is insanity! Being 8 1/2 months pregnant and lugging 4 loads of laundry down the hall is less than appealing and I have totally fallen behind!
After reading Kristen's post about simplifying, I can not wait to get moved into a new place and pare down our clothes! Enough is enough.

OK 6 black garbage bags full of give away clothes and I am still going! This thread is inspiring! I even found some Garnet Hill, J Jill, and Hanna Anderssen clothes to put on ebay
