Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can someone explain to me, what that is all about? The topic has come up in another forum that I belong to, and I couldn't really explain it off the top of my head.

By the way mine is 'Anne'.

Mine is Bernadette.
I really can't explain it either. It is not a tradition here in Germany. They have not heard of it here, but traditionally Catholics here celebrate their Name Day since their baptism.
As I never knew anything about celebrating Name Day growing up, taking on a new name at confirmation had a lot of meaning for me.

I look forward to others' comments.

Your confirmation name is the name of a saint you choose as your special patron saint. The name doesn't become part of your legal name (I suppose you could have your name changed if you wanted to, though).

My son chose St. Pio of Pietrelcina for his patron saint this year. (I was very happy!)

Mine is Therese; I have always loved the Litte Flower and it took me about 10 seconds to make my decision.

When I was confirmed, sadly, in those "make a bookmark for Jesus" 1970's, most of my friends picked a name that sounded good, not the name of a saint who inspired them. Now, it seems, most teens are a little more serious about things.

At my son's Confirmation Mass, the musicians sang a beautiful Litany of Saints, using all the names the confirmandi chose.

ouch, this is true. I picked mine because it "sounded good" and a few other girls in my class with the same middle names were picking it too. We were "oh so cool"

However, luckily for me, it was "Marie" and as that is a form of Mary, I have clung to that in rough times, and have, since getting married, having children, and homeschooling, often felt blessed to have chosen it after all.

My oldest daughter, 17, who was confirmed a little over a year ago, picked Michael. She put a lot of thought into it, and I was glad.

Mine is Francis de Sales. I chose it when I converted in '06 and had to ask the priest if it was okay to choose a different gender name.
