I am loving this book!  It is such a lovely book and has really inspired me!!
Please share if you too have read this book and how it help you to Homeschool the CM way.

I read this book quite of few years back. It is really fun, it gives great inspiration for those who may need ideas and a spring board!

I felt great sharing in Carol's life, since I didn't know any other homeschooling moms. But boy, her children were so perfect!  Mine are not always so, they are human. I would like to read a book about a Mother who struggles, finds answers, relies on God and comes out the wiser. I think it would be so beneficial....
My homeschool facilitator thinks it would probably discourage others from homeschooling!

I enjoyed certain aspects of the book -- seeing how Comstock's book could be used as a teaching tool (as a supplementary book that Mom reads on her own). Before reading Pocketful, I didn't use Comstock's book as effectively or as often. I like the way the Carol would seize those teaching moments as well.
Rebecca -- it's easy to have "perfect" children when they are fictional!

I finished the book last night and I have to agree with you Janette, it made me rething Comstock's book. My oldest dd used it for part of her natural science course with MODG and I never thought about it for the younger ones.
The sweet story just made me take another look at our nature studys and how I can improve.
And knowing it was a fiction story made me not feel so bad about my lack of nature study! I think I might have thrown the book out if it hadn't been written that way. I don't need one more guilt book.

Rebecca, I felt similiar to you when I read it. I was inspired in nature study though, but well, her 2 children seemed very 'perfect'.

I read this a few years ago and it encouraged me and prompted me to buy Comstock's book!
It's actually time for a reread, I think I'll pull it out later today.

I read this a few months back, along with The Charlotte Mason Companion, and it really helped get me motivated to start nature notebooks with my
kids. Yes, it definitely seemed to idealize family life and homeschooling, but one thing I got from the book was further encouragement that my homeschooling doesn't have to look "schoolish". Of course I knew that from the Real Learning book and this forum, but I need as much reminding as I can get! Thanks for bringing this up, Jackie. I meant to look for the Comstock book, but this serves as a reminder.

I liked this book too. And, made me realize that I actually WAS doing nature study! It made me realize that anytime we're outside is an opportunity for nature study, even if it's just simply to comment on the weather or look at an ant on the ground. It helped me to stop when the kids wanted to stop and talk about things. I just liked how she engaged in conversation about things that were around in everyday life.
