Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My Dh's Aunt will visit us tomorrow from Austin. She is my dh's only living adult family.I am very nervous, as she is a very proper Lady...and I am...not. She is a very sweet gal, and I would love to give her a little welcoming gift. She always sends our dc gifts for BDs and Christmas-even when my parents forget. I just want to make this a special visit. She will only be here for the afternoon, so I will need to prepare food. I knew she was coming, but have been so busy I haven't had the time to properly clean our home.

Any quick ideas? (Other than crisis clean and grocery shop!)

Thankyou!

Christy

Hi, Christy!

A pretty photo album with a few photos already inside makes a quick, thoughtful, and inexpensive gift; if you have a pic or two of your dc enjoying his Aunt's gifts, so much the better!

I once had "lunch company" on a day when I was out of bread--and no time to make any before lunch. I made cream puffs instead, and filled them with chicken salad (or maybe egg salad; somehow I think it might have been a Friday, but maybe that was a different occasion). Other simple but pretty lunches might be a pasta salad or a quiche; serve with fresh fruit or a vegetable tray and maybe some mini muffins.

Hope you have a wonderful visit!

I've hosted two moms lunch/kids play dates this month. I've served variations of this lunch.

Salad Trio

I also made a VERY simple cheese log appetizer
*soften a block of cream cheese - add 1/2 cup of chopped green olives to cream cheese and blend - place on plastic wrap and mold into a log - put in the fridge for 30 min - toast 1/4 chopped pecans - finely chop green part only of green onions - combine the pecans and chives on a plate - roll the log in the mixture - serve with whole grain wheat thins.

I really cheated on deesert and bought the pkg of single serving sponge cakes, topped with sliced strawberries and bluberries and topped off with whipped cream (from a can ).

Here are some more tips:
*It may be easeir to make a fruit salad than the pasta salad. Or even just cut melons.
*Buy fancy flavored bread and have the store slice it. *Make a pitcher of tea first thing in the morning.

Hope this helps!

Cucumber sandwiches, a cold soup such as gazpacho, and fruit for dessert. Keep it simple and understated,it makes a huge impression, allowing you time to actually visit.

Ladies, thankyou for your help!

The visit is over, and we had a wonderful time. I think she actually likes it that I'm not so...proper.

For the juicy details .....

I put my suntea out(Luzianne with herbal peach) and my dc and I "Crisis cleaned". I then went to T.J. Maxx, where I found a summer tablecloth on clearance, beautiful ice tea glasses, and cute little spreading knives. I picked out an elegant photo album for a gift.

I totally cheated and stopped at the health food store where I bought a broccoli/cashew salad and gourmet tuna salad. The kids enjoyed bagels with flavored cream cheese, grapes and watermelon.

I stopped at the grocery and bought Painted Daiseys, and sprinkled them throughout the house including our Schoenstatt Shrine.

We met my DH near his office at a local ice cream shoppe where we polished off gourmet ice cream!

I really felt I was able to get to know her a little more. She has a difficult time with us HSing, but did remark how articulate DD is and how happy and well mannered both DC are.

I did bookmark that yummy Chix salad-it doesn't have gluten in it(which is just something *I* am avoiding).Thankyou!

Warmly,
Christy
