You lovely ladies will appreciate my dismay in a way no one else can.....
We received our shipment on Friday so I have been busy unpacking and setting up the house. Five months is along time without our "stuff"' so we're happy it arrived.
Here's the fun part: The packers took my large map puzzles, and dumped every single puzzle piece from all eight puzzles into my big wooden Noah's Ark - together. Add a long sea voyage from the Black Sea, across the Med, the Atlantic and into the Caribbean and you have....a long job ahead of you.
I think I may have to find controls on the internet, maybe invite folks over for a wine and geography night.
Oh my!

Pity I'm not in Suriname, I think the idea of a wine and geography night with some other mums sounds absolutely lovely

Wow! No fun at all.
We are military and I have had visions of what will be in store for me in our future--many times over.
I hope it doesn't take you too long to get them together.

What about pre-wraping them with some kind of plastic cling wrap...they just might arrive in one piece that way....Look on the bright side...
I think you will be learning a lot of geography this way...{{ducking}}.... I would LOVE to come on over and help if it weren't for a bit of a commuting issue
God love you!

Yes we live and learn! Next time (and there will be a next...and a next time) I'll pre-baggy them up. And at least this way all the pieces SHOULD be there. A missing piece or two would be a far worse tragedy.
Yes, it really is too bad about that "commuting issue".

I am commiserating with you. We just moved into our third house in three years...yikes. Don't ever have movers pack your home up the week before Christmas. We had to make over $1500 in claims (what we asked for not what everything was worth). They took my father's four vintage erector sets and dumped them all together. They were perfectly separated into sets...never to be recovered!!!
So...you’re not alone! I will say too, be careful of doing too much prep work in advance next time. Before I move this time I separated a lot of stuff into plastic bins so things wouldn't get separated when I unpacked them. The movers didn't even bother to "pack" these things. They simply put tape around the boxes. Many things were destroyed because they were jostled around in the box which was never meant to be the final packing job. My Christmas decorations were hit the hardest. Live and learn…..

Oh Betsy....that sounds far worse than a jumble of puzzle pieces. I'm sorry. Most everything else made it intact, escept our piano which has a broken leg. But it is not a family heirloom, just a nice Russian piano. Thanks for the advice for next time, though.

The bright side is that you really learn to detach yourself from worldly possession!

Brilliant idea! 'Wonder if it would work to get our basement cleaned out. We've got six inches of mud and water in there after torrential rain here in Chicago and I just can't face how much of our stuff is absolutely ruined. I'd always wondered whatever happened to all my wonderful travel photos of Europe...yup, found 'em. They were the only ones in cardboard boxes. I feel like I just bid my youth goodbye. Silly, but I could just sit down and cry (okay, I did that already). This will teach me to finally, finally, finally put everything in Rubbermaid containers, won't it?

Oh, Katie! Until this post we always had loads of stuff. Everytime we moved I ordered all the boxes and packing materials to be delivered to our house at least one month before we moeved. I would stay up every night until about 4 am packing everything and several nights without sleep(imagine taping down 300 plus boxes in the night - my dh got is now immune to that noise! Even the big furniture I would cover and bubble wrap before they finalised with cartons. Every oil painting (maybe 50+) I would wrap with paper and then plastic sheets before they would but it all into a big crate. We had to come here with nothing. I don't know what is worse: doing the work properly and suffering no loss, not bothering and suffering the consequences or going without!
P.S. Maybe your dc will surprise you and sort it all out themselves.
