Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, being in my 40's and noticing my PMS changing--and getting worse--wondering how other ladies handle those times of the month when you just aren't at your best? I have a midwife appointment in August and will discuss with her but wondering how you cope? My last cycle was really hard and I wasn't the best with my kiddos.
I remember my Mom going through menopause and it wasn't pretty. Though, she had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed in her 30's. That may have made it more intense for her. I was a teen when she was moody. Of course, I had no idea why she was so cranky and mean. Looking back I know I don't want to be that way for my dear children, who are so much younger(and I, so much older than my dear mom).

Anne,

I am having some PMS issues and my cycles have been changing over the last year. I notice I get very emotional and irritable the week before my cycle. I have been reading up on things and I know I have a progesterone deficiency and a lot of people with PMS do as well. You might want to look at that. I am taking a multi-vitamin for it--optivite and also have just started progesterone cream. This is only my 2nd cylce using it. It seemed to help last month and don't know yet about this cylce. There are several threads on progesterone cream you might check out here.

I was PMSing last week and just knew that the worse place for us to be was sitting at home where I could see the messes and gripe about them.

Solution?

I took everyone to the swimming pool and sat with my aunt on the poolside and let the children play with the cousins.

Swimming with cousins builds better summer memories than listening to Mom PMSing all day. And I was a much nicer person in front of my aunt than I'd have been at home behind closed doors. Shameful to admit, I know it, but there you have it.

We got home and all took a nap. The house was better managed when mom was well-rested and daddy was home to make everybody laugh and clean-up the messes with his one word of diplomacy vs. Mom's tirade of impatience.

Cay,

Excellent coping strategy! My sister was visiting during the worst part of my cycle last month and I thought it was going to be HORRIBLE. But I was "forced" to be nice by being around company all the time and it was wonderful for me! I found ways to make things work for myself and did not need to "lean" on anyone. I think making yourself get out and do something somewhere with someone (or many someones) is a super idea. Drop the house mess (it will wait there for you). Leave it behind. Clear your head. Enjoy yourself. Try to find quiet joy in some small things you notice while out. Realize they are small, direct gifts from God to you specifically to remind you once again how much He loves you because you always seem to forget. Tackle your boring house only when you're ready and when you have a helpmate or two.

Thanks for the pep talk and ideas ladies. I was thinking of progesterone cream. Will discuss in August with midwife. And what a wonderful idea to just ditch it all and just try to enjoy myself and my kids. Will try some of these suggestions in a few days

Anne,

You may want to try Evening Primrose oil. It can help alleviate some pms symptoms.

God bless,
