Wondering how others motivate themselves to do all the "mommy" things when for various reasons they just feel "blah"...
I've been feeling a little sickish lately, plus allergies, plus third trimester, plus it's really humid today (and no air conditioning), and... I have all these doctor's/therapy appointments I have to cart everyone to, and I should be mobilizing for vacation (we're leaving Thursday), but just about the only thing I can drag myself to do is the laundry. It's really just motivation. I'm also not sure how much rest I *really* need... and how much it's just me wishing I could sit down in the recliner with a good book for a while.
This isn't much of a conversation topic, I guess, but just wondering... is it okay to be lazy sometimes as long as it's summer?

I always tend to think of St. Faustina (or maybe it was Theresa?) at times like this- I think the story goes something like this: she was helping prepare dinner in the convent kitchen and wondering how this job really meant anything... then she took the lid off a pot of boiling potatoes and found an exquisitely beautiful bunch of roses inside the pot instead. Jesus told her later that even the smallest tasks done for others are so very pleasing to him.

Angela,
I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I just want to vegitate in a chair and have some peace and quiet.
Even moms need a little down time.
Blessings,
Krisann

Considering you are in your third trimester I would look at this like you are preparing for a marathon. You need to take care of the baby within and your body to prepare for the birth. I include mental preparation too!
If you can't focus on the little things that need to be done with great love, would taking a bit of personal time help rechage the batteries so you could do this better?
Pray to the Sacred Heart. Place all of your troubles there and He will lead you to the rest you need as well as the strengh to do your taskes to please Him.
I will keep you in my prayers as well...for advice is easy to give and hard to follow sometimes

If it makes you feel any better, before my OB knew anything about "how I was feeling" she gave me her "fifth child at 38 speech" (that is what she called it ) that went something like this, "You are carrying your fifth child. You need a good night's sleep AND two hours of rest every afternoon, or you will be tired, crabby, unmotivated to do anything, snapping at the children by the end of the day, and not know why." And I wasn't even in my 3rd trimester when she said it, I was in the beginning of my second, the time when I should have had the *least* need for rest.
So if you went to her, she would tell you if you are not getting that much rest, you need it. Maybe even more, since you are caring for one more at home than I am.

All bets are off in the third trimester in the heat and humidity, dear. If you can move enough to keep up with dishes and laundry your doing great. Growing a baby is equivalent to climbing a mountain. Before you lift a finger you are already working incredibly hard.

Does anybody else see the irony in the fact that we have to "mobilize" to take a vacation. Okay, girls, everyone psych each other up so we can all go on vacation! There is no such thing as a vacation.
My prayers are with you Angela!

today they are fairly clean (well they are kids ya know!)
they've been fed. something anyhow.

I can really relate though my troubles are first rather than third trimester related.
I'm the last person to be advising anyone else on prayer given how feeble my efforts are, but I do so find that praying for joy in the everyday, every day, is such a good idea.

Angela,
I read that while pregnant a woman's body works harder sitting still than a mountain climber does scaling a mountain! Factor in heat and humidity and IMO you've got a pass no matter which way you look at it!!!
You're in my prayers! Spend some time on the couch contemplating how you can simplify for a few weeks! You do need to take time for rejuvenation! Even Our Lord recognized that when He told the apostles to "come away and rest awhile."

We are without air, too. I am only at the beginning of my 2nd trimester, but I am way over being Mommy this week! I am dealing with lots of crabby kids, too much running around and my own bad attitude.
How about turning on the sprinkler, grabbing a cold drink and let the kids frolic while you put your feet up?
Lots of empathy here. Hang in there!

I am right there with ya, minus the vacation part. I am so struggling with "Well, I AM 7 months pregnant and I need my rest" and "I don't want the kids to look back and remember mom always being too tired and pregnant to do anything fun." Some days I feel I've done too much, and some days I feel I've done to little. The problem is that of course the kids always feel as though I've done too little

BTDT, recently. Only I had a/c, and no vacation.
Honey, I can't give you more advice...you NEED the rest. Repeat after me, I NEED THE REST. Now, say it again and again and again.
Now, go lay down, and put your feet up. Grab a piece of paper or two, and write down what absolutely MUST get done. Write down your packing list for everyone.
Can you call in a neighborhood teen to help with the dc? Or to help you pack, or around the house--or all of the above--tomorrow? Short notice, but pay them pretty well, and they won't care, likely.
I also find that if I pack while I am doing the laundry, I can get packed pretty quickly (since you said you were keeping up with the laundry). Every time I go to the bathroom (which being pregnant you likely do ALOT, lol), I'd throw something else into my toiletries kit, or grab something for the suitcase (the dc's travel toiletries, or the sunscreen, bug spray, first aid kit, you know, those little incidentals we tend to forget to pack when we do it all in a rush).
HTH. I hate traveling when pregnant, to be honest. I'm already tired and over stressed, and then I "get" to pack and haul everyone a good 6 hrs away. Not my idea of fun, frankly.
And whoever said that we don't GET a vacation, is right. There IS no such thing (unless the dc are grown and gone and we have no pets to worry over. Then of course there IS Dh...hmmm).
Anyway, hugs, cause I SOOOO know where you are.
Rachel
