This year I want to add *catholic* devotional readings to our morning prayer sessions. I would like to select books that coorelate with our monthly liturgical devotions and I am in need of ideas...
Let me see if I can give examples that have worked well so far for our family:
MONTH OF MAY: Our Lady
DEVOTIONAL READING: Leading Little Ones to Mary. We read one or two talks everyday after our gospel reflection.
MONTH OF JUNE: The Sacred Heart
DEVOTIONAL READING: This is my body, this is my blood.... We read one story a day.
These short read alouds have really helped the kids (and myself) keep focused on the purpose for the month. I am looking for books that are more focused and correlate specifically with the monthly devotion. I was wondering if anyone could offer a specific book that has smaller shorter readings that can be used as a devotional for a particular month's devotion.
I am trying to accumulate book ideas according to age ranges to rotate through each year....
My age range scale goes roughly like:
Preschool - Early Elementary
Middle - Upper Elementary
Teen - Adult

A couple that come to mind:
For October (which we celebrate as the month of the Holy Angels):
St. Michael and the Angels - This is a wonderful book split into thirty sections for daily reading. It details the role of the angels in a very orthodox way and goes into the archangels in greater detail. I'd probably consider it teen-adult reading due to the language-level, not due to the nature of the material.
For June (Sacred Heart):
Joan Carroll Cruz's Eucharistic Miracles
and For May (Our Lady):
Cruz's Miraculous Images of Our Lady
These two lend themselves well to daily snippets.
I love this idea, by the way, and I'm really interested in reading others' responses! In the meantime, I'll try to think up some more...

I second that Celeste - any of Joan Carroll Cruz's books are great for daily snippets that will be enjoyed by the young and old.
Leslie a beautiful devotional book that goes all year round that is based on The Diary of St Faustina (giving snippets from the diary on a daily basis) It is called, Revelations of Divine Mercy by George W Kosicki
Each month has a theme:
January - Mercy
February - Love
March - Mercy
April - Trust
May - Misery-Mercy
June - Thanks
July - Desire
August - Union
September - God's Will
October - Eucharist
November - Humility
December - Mary
So at the beginning of each month they briefly discuss the theme and they have a Practise, Prayer & Promise. This is December's:
Practise: Daily renew your consecration to the Blessed Mother.
Prayer: Ask for the grace to be a 'special child' of Mary by praying the rosary daily.
Promise: Claim the promise of Mary to St Faustina: "My daughter, at God's command I am to be, in a special and exclusive way your Mother; but I desire that you, too, in a special way, be my Child (1414)"
Then you have your daily readings which are usually on average 1/2 page.
A wonderful devotional book drawing deeply into the writings of St Faustina's diary and cultivating a strong, daily devotion to the Divine Mercy.

Here is a list of the monthly dedications and devotional friendly books I have so far, I need to sit and go through other books. Many of the books can be used in different months which is ok because there maybe more readings/stories than you can cover in just one month's time.

January: The Wonders of the Holy Name - my mum would read this booklet to me when I was younger, it is one of those great TAN booklets.
October: Another TAN book Under Angel's Wings - a true story and it is a book I often read 'little stories' or chapters to my children - I think this book is most suitable for what you are looking for.
November: We love our Holy Souls here and we have developed that devotion and love from read small exerpts from books like Purgatory Explained It has a Joan Carrol Cruz touch to it and my children know so many stories and devotions thanks to this book. At present, if I have a morning nap with my 4 year old he insists I tell him (just in my own words) a particular holy souls story..
December: One book I love for the children is Stories of the Child Jesus from Many Lands

Mysteries, Marvels, Miracles in the Lives of the Saints (another Joan Cruz book) This would be good if for the month of November (Feast of All Saints) you wanted to read about the deeds of the saints.
The Blessed Eucharist: Our Greatest Treasure by Fr Michael Muller
The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: How to Practise the Sacred Heart Devotion
For Septemeber, and the Holy Cross there is Miraculous Images of Our Lord another Joan Cruz book.
October: Send Me Your Guardian Angel by Fr Alessio Parente - these are guardian angel stories connected with Padre Pio, a lovely little book.
For Marian Months, The Life of Mary as seen by the Mystics compiled by Raphael Brown. His sources are Ven Anne Catherine Emmerich, Ven Mary of Agreda, St Bridget os Sweden and St Elizabeth of Schoenau - all respected and approved mystics.
Leslie, it might be worth you having a good look at the online catalogue of TAN as they supply many of the books above and much, much more, it is the sort of books that they produce and they are all wonderful. I was 'raised' on TAN books and they did alot of good in my formation - my parents bought nearly every book they had 20odd years ago and we had an instant library...

This is a great idea you have BTW, thanks for the posting, I think that I will try to get something going in this many for the different devotions connected to each of the months...they are a special thing that is also important in the liturgical year...
