Ladies I need some ideas for a cake flavor that would go with wild rose pedals .
I'm making a cake for the Oblates going away potluck dinner this sat.
I would like to make a cake and decorate it with the wild roses which are pink .
I'd like to make a cream cheese icing .
Here are some ideas I have so far .
An orange flavored cake with orange cream cheese flavored icing decoarated with roses .
A vanilla cake with a white cream cheese icing flavored with rose water & decorated with roses .
I can do almost any flavor of cake and icing .Just not sure which flavors will go with rose .
Chocolate might be good ? yes ? no ?
I've got to make it friday as our yardsale is saterday afternoon then the potluck is at 6pm
Please if you've cooked or decorated with roses I'd love to hear your ideas .
God Bless , Roxie

If you add an extra egg and two mashed bananas too a yellow ckae mix it makesa lovely banana cake that is delicious with cream cheese icing.

I have no idea what wild roses taste like, but I have seen some rose fragrances described as "citrusy". If you would describe these roses using that term, them I think the orange flavoring might be best.

A light peppermint might go well with the pink roses. Lemon as well.

I don't know how to make one, but I think a white chocolate cake might be nice with rose petals.

It was so nice to come here this am and see you all had answered my note
I'm still debating . I love lemon cake the best myself .
Chocolate white is easy enough to make I'm just thinking icing etc. too not so sold on the chocolate flavour .
Now I'm also thinking to add daisies into the picture along with the roses .
lemon is looking more summery and inviting then orange right now .
Personally I want to try the rose flavour icing and was thinking to flavour a vanilla cake with orange blosoom water .However I think for our parish where people are used to stew , bannack and balony ( sad considering the aboriginal peoples traditionally would have eaten flowers )I best stick to a more traditional flavour .
Maybe a calling for a ladies tea party with mint lemonade and flower cake is in order
Much Love , Roxie

Dear Roxie,
We make a rose flavored cake for the Feast of the Assumtion by adding a couple teaspoons of rose water to a white cake batter then decorate with white frosting and rose petals (we have beautiful pink ones in August).

Shari can I ask what you think a filling in the center would be ?
The lemon I use a lemon custard filling .
so for a rose falvored cake would you keep it just a simple custard original flavor ? or perhaps make it mildly rose flavored too ?
I love cake & pie and I haven't had breakfast yet I too am getting hungry
Thanks so much this is fun
Much Love Roxie

Dear Roxie,
We usually flavor a pound cake with the rose water so no filling. But, I think vanilla would go well. We do flavor the glaze with rose water. More rose flavor might be overwhelming and lemon would perhaps overwhelm the rose. This is such a unique flavor that the Assumtion cake is very much looked forward to. Both my girls want this cake as a wedding cake when (and if ) that happy day arrives.

Personally, I'd go with a light lemon (perhaps a lemon flavoring added to a white cake?), with a raspberry jam filling if doing layers...a fluffy white frosting, sprinkled with those lovely rose petals (ohh! You might have them candied...that would be fairly easy, and very pretty, too!)
Hope I am not coming in too late...but I do love pretty yummy tasting cakes...
