I cannot resist posting a note to say how thoroughly we are enjoying Libby Derham's new CD, "Awake My Soul," featuring Libby on both violin and cello, along with piano and the beautiful voices of the Choirs of St. Greg's Parish. Libby's playing is out of this world and well deserves the description given it by St. Greg's pastor--in a word, it is "ethereal." "Jesus Took the Cup," featuring Libby on Cello, is my new favorite song. I only wish I had had a copy of it before Clair's First Holy Communion. We would have listened to it during her preparation.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of the CD, aside from its beauty, is that the musical selections are a veritable calendar of the Liturgical Year and will serve us well as we attempt to celebrate each new season. I'm sure MacBeth will not mind if I share the playlist:
Fly Like a Bird
Advent:
Ave Maria
A Jubilant Song
Laetentur Coeli/Ave Maria
On that Holy Mountain
Song of Advent
Christmas:
Pacem
Procession of the Kings
Angel's Lullaby
Et Incarnatus Est
Lent:
Shout to the King Hosanna
Trust in God
Jesus Took the Cup
Do You Know Me?
Easter:
Easter is Here
Sing It!
Do this in Memory of Me
We Live a Mystery
Some of these songs are new to me, others are old favorites, all are beautiful. Congratulations to Libby on yet another tremendous accomplishment!

Alice, thank you so much for the kind words.
I was delighted to see that the CD is divided into the Liturgical Year. I was not at the recording session, and Libby went in with no rehersal (there is a mistake in Pacem that irks her , but they could not do it over) so the whole CD was a delightful and fresh musical experience for me, too. I can't say enough good things about the Choirs of St. Greg's, and Tom Humbert, the music director, along with Sister Rosemary, the pianist. Tom took a church with next to no music ministry, and built the individuals into an incredibly "together" group. And everyone loves Tom.
Several years ago, Tom also recorded a solo album of beautiful Catholic music influenced by the diverse population we have here in Queens. If I can get hold of some of those, I'll let you know. His latest CD, a jazz album recorded with the Rainbow Room Jazz guys, is coming out soon, too. Libby is doing a concert with all of them out in the Hamptons in August. When I told my mother this, she told me that my grandparents' favorite place in NYC was The Rainbow Room. I did not even know they had ever been to NYC...I wish they were alive to see this concert.

Hey Willa!
It's only available through St. Greg's. There were some copies left when Don spoke to the pastor on Monday, and there are 5 people already on the waiting list...I can add more . Don will go and pick up more on Sunday. Let me know if you want one, and anyone else, too, and we'll see if we can fill all the requests.
The CD was recorded as a fundraiser for the parish, and it cost $15.

We would love two copies. Please just let me know how to pay for it.
My parents love the cello and will be thrilled to get something so beautifully Catholic!
I wish I could play an instrument. What a wonderful talent to use to glorify our Lord.
God bless,
Marybeth

I love Pacem! I just went back to listen for the mistake, but couldn't detect it. Please tell Libby it is not noticeable.

We received the CD yesterday, and agree that it is wonderful! Tim couldn't get over at how beautifully Libby plays! I wish I had her in my living room playing on a regular basis.. I guess now, I sort of can!

This is an excellent suggestion, Brenda--I'll have to talk to St. Greg's Pastor!

If I have your address, there is a CD in the mail for you. I am still missing the addresses for 5 people:
Louise
Willa (I know I had it once...)
Jennifer (not Jenn)
Robin
Angie
PM me or e-mail me as soon as possible, as I want to be rid of the Cds sitting in my LR.
St. Greg's says Thanks!

We're lovin' this CD MacBeth! Just wanted to let you and Libby know that it is the new "play mass" favorite for processional and recessional hymns around here
