** UPDATE ON NEXT PAGE **
Hi, this is Adrianna, Ruth's oldest daughter. I received this prayer request from a friend of mine on a Marine Corps message board to which I belong. Please pray for this baby... He is so brave and God is letting him hang on for a reason. Please just take a couple of minutes to watch the video, say a prayer, and pass it on to your family and friends. I don't know them personally, but some friends of mine are good friends with them. The video explains what happened to the baby and his parents. Thanks and God bless.
*************************************************
I have more information on this precious baby and his family:
Like any responsible parents, Kristy and Josh Schwade wanted what was best for their only child, Kaleb. They did a background check on their day care worker, and even interviewed her in her home for two hours. Kristy was even willing to drive 20 miles out of her way to provide, what they thought to have been, "optimum" care in a good neighborhood.
On May 9th, 2007 their worst nighmare was brought to fruition. After being in the care of this home day care worker only five times, Kaleb was picked up by his Grandmother and Aunt. They noticed that he was lethargic and experiencing obvious breathing abnormalities. The caregiver told them he was ill, but Kaleb had just visited the doctors the day before and was given a "clean bill of health". When Kristy arrived at her mother's home to pick Kaleb up, she described him as "having no life in his body". She tried repeatedly to wake him, but with no avail. She and her father got in the car and rushed to the hospital. While in the vehicle, Kristy lifted Kaleb's little eyelids. She noticed that his pupils were different sizes. Being the wife of an EMT, she knew immediately that this was the sign of a head injury- Kaleb needed IMMEDIATE care. They stopped at the nearest firestation. The ambulance took him to the nearest hospital, and he was classified as a "trauma alert". He was then life-flighted to Tampa General Hospital, and was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). He was diagnosed as having Shaken Baby Syndrome. They also discovered that he had been SMOTHERED!
Kristy is not currently working, and she and Josh spend every possible moment by their young son's side. Medical bills, cost of gas, lawyer fees (I assume they will begin building), and general living expenses are mounting.
Below is Kristy's original bulletin posted shortly after the incident.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hello everyone...
I write you this message in grief in faith.
My son Kaleb was rushed by ambulance to the emergency room on Wed. after we picked him up from the babysitters house. At UCH they determined that Kaleb had a SubDural Hematoma (His brain is bleeding). He then was Bayflighted (helicopter) to Tampa General Hospitals Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on a Trauma Alert.
Doctors determined that Kaleb was shaken while at the homecare he goes to. He is suffering from Shaking Baby Syndrome.
When we first arrived at the hospital they put a pressure gage into his head to moniter the Intercranial Pressure (The pressure that the brain is under due to swelling and Bleeding). He wasn't doing too well all day yesterday, his pressure in his head was ranging between 29-40 and the normal pressure is between 5-20. So doctors decided that the best thing to do was to put a tube into his brain to drain spinal fluid from his ventricle. This procedure was a sucess and brought the pressure down.
Today however, they did a Cat Scan and saw that Kaleb is now suffering from a stroke and has formed a new bleed in the brain.
I beleive in Miralcles! I believe that prayer works. I am asking you, all of my friends, whether you know me well or not to PLEASE pray for my little boy Kaleb. He needs a miracle and we need your help!
I know some of you may not believe in God... But he exists! And he's already performed one miracle. Please I ask you, I beg you, to Pray for my little boy and my family. He is my everything.

From his mom's blog yesterday:
It has now been One month
Today is June 9th and it has now been one whole month since my precious Kaleb was able to smile, laugh, cry, eat, see, and jump in his jumperoo (that was his favorite) One whole month since my entire world was turned upside down and inside out. What I wouldn't give to have those BORING saturdays back... It is amazing how much you take for granted when every thing is just simply "normal", like we want things to be chaotic... Our world has taught us all that simplicity is NOT acceptable...at least that is what it taught me before this all happened. Simple...how simple things were before this. Weak...how weak I was before all of this. My Kaleb has taught me the definition of strength. He has made me stronger then I ever thought that I could be.
Kaleb is doing good today. He is moving and opening his eyes a little bit. He is on his second day of the new antibiotic, we won't find out if this is effective until the end of the treatment. Hopefully it will be. I am at the hospital right now sitting in Kaleb's Room listening to Pink Floyd's, Wish you were here. I am looking around at the walls at all of the letters and cards that we have received. I am bound and determined to hang everyone of them up. I want all the nurses and Doctors to know how much Kaleb is LOVED!!!

And another update:
WOW! What a day… We got to the hospital rather early today because of the surgery. I was SOO nervous today. They took Kaleb down to the OR and Josh and I walked with them all the way up to the OR doors. I was so scared that something would go wrong… We then sat in the waiting room for about an hour. The surgeon came out and told us that everything went GREAT! They released a massive amount of Pressure out of his head. They put the drain on the opposite side of his head from where the last drain was. We waited out side of those doors of the OR that seem to change SO many lives EVERYDAY for Kaleb to come out. They definitely change my day that is for sure… As soon as those doors opened I saw my baby boys blue eyes. They were wide open and looking around! Kaleb came out completely changed! He is moving so much more and opening his eyes! PRAISE GOD! It is amazing how that one room can change a person's life SO much even if it's just for one day. This one day, today, has been a high point since this whole thing happened. Kaleb is still blind but this is a step forward! I believe in him with all my heart! He is going to make a change in this world… I know it!
Later on in the day we were told that the meningitis is still there. But, because the drain has been put in, they are now able to deliver those crucial, EFFECTIVE antibiotics directly to his brain. They told us that the course of this will take about 5 days. However they anticipate that the drain will be left in for at least 3 weeks which means that he will remain in ICU.

Today's update:
The doctor came in and said that he looked totally different, in a good way... Everything about him seems to be improving. The gram stains (The cultures they do on the CSF) are clean so the antibiotics look to be effective!!!
PT/OT also came in and Kaleb woke right up, WIDE EYED and all! They are all so surprised with his progress... He is moving so much more and is more arrousable.

Today (June 12):
We have hit a bump in the road.
This AM Kaleb threw up blood... a lot of blood. He has internal bleeding. So they have stopped his feeds and replaced the feeding tube with a vacuum like tube that is suctioning out his stomach to see if the bleeding stops on its own. If it doesn't, the next step would be a endoscopy (like a video camera that goes down through his mouth into his stomach) to see what the problem is and how they can fix it. Kaleb is pretty unresponsive today... just sleeping. My poor Kaleb. They say it could possibly be a stress ulcer or the lining of the stomach got irratated by the feeding tube.
Kaleb also had a fever this AM. 101.3 temp. So they took off his little outfit and took the covers off of him... and now at this moment he is too cold. So now the Bairhugger (Heater) is on him. Luckly they have found some newborn hats that fit him... He looks really pale today too.
********************************************
Here is a picture of Kaleb and his dad. Unfortunately, he is now blind, due to the head trauma.

He is a beautiful boy.
Our whole family will be praying for this lovley young family and for a miracle for Kaleb.
We will be praying fervently for them all, and also the doctors and medical staff that are caring for Kaleb.
This blows me away how this happened.
Is there an investigation going to take place regarding this crime?
God Bless
C
