Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

i am new to birdwatching, and here in our neighborhood we have mostly seen sparrows. lots of sparrows. but today i crossed a busy street and right there on the sidewalk were two sparrows, one on top of the other. wrestling? fighting? or doing what birds (and bees and all living things) do? i couldnt tell if they were male, female, or one of each. it was a busy street and i didnt want to stop to look closely. i have noticed a lot more activity in the bushes and vines where the sparrows hang out. squalking and fluttering and chasing. are they twitterpated or territorial or what?

I second the vote for the birds and the bees. A lot of that is going on around our bushes. We tell the small kids that the birds are "dancing".

when i hear "hey mom- what are the ponies doing?"

"umm celebrating the spring- hey look chickens!"

luckily they were way back in the field

this year it was the ducks...those darn birds and bees!

maggie- who is not ready for this!

Having grown up around chickens and pigeons and being an avid birdwatcher, I can assure you that eggs usually follow the "piggy back ride."

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

This reminds me of the time my ds (then 10yo) was intently watching something on our back deck. As I approached I realized it was 2 chipmunks. I said "Oh look at those silly chipmunks wrestling!" Ds, with a very serious face said, "No Mom, they are actually mating. It is very rare indeed to see chipmunks mating!". I had to giggle because of how serious he was, but at the same time wondered how he knew!

*smile*

My eldest son (9 or 10 at the time) called it courting when we saw two neighborhood dogs mating...I thought that was a wonderful old fashioned way of putting it. *smile*
