Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My mother asked me if I knew anything about the books by Janice T. Connell. I don't. Do you?

I have Mary, Queen of Angels (same as Queen of Angels, just a reprint, I think). I got it as a gift and have never read it. I thought it sounded a little too New-Agey to be trusted. I just thumbed through it and it sounds like this author gets a lot right ("Trust in my Immaculate Heart," lots of saints' quotations and Scripture verses) but may not be a sound "leading authority" on Mary, as she is touted.

One quote I found was this:

Q. Spiritual Mother, should I fear death?
A. Jesus told us we are spirit and light. The body must be shed. This happens to everyone...Death is only the shedding of the human body. Though He died, Jesus lives. Though the saints died, they live. Our time on earth is to develop our spirits that live forever.

Another was this:

Q. Spiritual Mother, I am experiencing difficulty. What shall I do?

A. Do not fear. I am leading you away from earthly joys into the Heart of my Son. Ask for nothing but knowledge of God's perfect Will and strength to accomplish the fulfillment of His Plan for your life in all your days and nights on earth.

I think someone already well grounded in their faith could read this without harm and may even find inspiration, but I don't know what errors might be in it. Again, this is just from a thumb-through.

I found it interesting that one of the New Age commenters I read on Amazon highly recommended the book but took issue with some of the Christian doctrine the author seems to hold. Part of her comments:

"I must highly recommend this book. However, what the author should consider is that Mother Mary is actually Mother God (cf Sylvia Browne's books on Journey of the Soul--also totally excellent), and further she states that "Christians do not believe in reincarnation" which is not exactly correct. Gnostic Christians do believe in reincarnation. ... other than these minor corrections, the book is wholly excellent in that it draws one much closer to Mother God in an extremely religiously correct manner explaining the full beauty, grace, love and mercy of God, and that is the whole point of our existence on earth."
