Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

*sigh*
My priestess of the local chapter and state representative of the Coalition of Wiccan, Pagan, and Heathen beliefs or some such thing. Can't remember the exact name/title.

So for the first time in 7 years for some unknown reason I had her in my home today.

Kids are off to the farthest corners of the house while I try to have civil discourse with my sister dispite the obvious huge canyon of differences.

So... we are talking and I mention going to church and she says she goes to church too. I'm thinking she means her naked in the woods blarney. No, a CATHOLIC CHURCH! She says it's pretty, has rituals, and she pomised grandmother that she'd go to a christian church once in a while. Oh I'm just nauseated. I hate to ask for fear of the answer... Did she partake of the Eucharist?! I held my tongue and didn't ask. (Those who know me personally, know I must have nearly bit it off to manage that! )

Should I ask? What, oh what in the world should I do if she gives me the very unsurprising answer of, "Well yeah, I know it's the flesh and blood to you, but it's just toast and liquer to me."???

It's been several hours since she left and I'm still itching to grab the phone and ask and tell her whatfor.

*sigh* I know. What's the point. ARGH!
Thanks for listening.

Wow, Martha...whew. I have a niece and nephew by marriage (DHs side of the family) who are now disaffected Lutherans turned wiccan/neo-pagans/something else...

We live in the same town, and DH doesn't seem to "get it" that I'd really rather NOT have to go to their home...sigh.

Don't know WHAT to tell you (haven't figured out what to tell myself, frankly)....but ((HUGS)) are in order..

Rachel

well I asked and she did.

Now I just feel worse.

What does a person do in this situation?

Are there special prayers to the host or something?

It's okay to be protective over the Blessed Sacrament. Your heart is in the right place. You should even tell her why it would be disrespectful of her to partake. She may disagree, but I bet if you phrased it as a "respect for other religions" issue, she'd get it. I'm sure she's used to having to argue for her 'religion' to be respected.

Just try to remember that God can use her presence in His church to reach out to her and soften her heart. She may hear just the right thing from the homily, or something in the liturgy will call to her heart .... you just never know.

My new-agey sister has a rosary .... I know she doesn't use it as intended (she says she puts it out in her hotel rooms to guilt the largely Latina/Catholic housekeepers out of stealing her stuff), but I pray that Mary or God Himself might use it to reach her in a special way instead of condemning her for abusing a sacramental.

Exposure is a good thing.

Oh HELLO!
My sis just left from a visit (she lives about 1500 miles away). Sounds like YOUR sis! Mine TEACHES things like how to be a psyhcic and Reikki, etc.
She is planning on taking aweek long course to becoem a medium!!!!!!! Dh said she'll never be a medium- she'll always be a large! (She is heavy-set).
But, she is a nice, kid, sweet, well meaning person, respectful of MY beliefs AND does not try to brainwash the kids.
I love my sis and enjoy spending time with her. Sorry your relationship is rocky.
I have had many discussions with my sis, and there isn't much common ground we share in terms of religion. Some, though. And the "application" of our religions ends up often being similar: practicing charity, thinking positive, etc.
Prayers for you and her. It can be tough! I wouldn't try to confront her on the Communion thing. If she knows she shouldn't recieve and does anyway, it is her sin (whether she knows or believes it or not). If she doesn't know, you could sometime share with her. But chances are that she will ignore what you say.

ETA: Sorry Martha, that she did that...
you can pray in repartion for the offense caused...

Yours in Christ,
Kathy

Oh, we cross-posted.

I am so sorry she did that. Did you tell her why it's wrong?

I am not sure about any prayers, but you could surely make up your own for this situation. And offer up all your sufferings for the next day or so for forgiveness of this sin of hers.

All you can do is pray. If God calls her into His church, she will have her chance to repent and realize what she's done. Since she's going to a Catholic Church, do you think she would accept a green scapular? You could pray the prayer for her, or she could do it herself. She doesn't even have to wear it, just keep it at her house. Many conversions have been attributed to this sacramental .... I hid one in the springs of the backseat of my mom's car and I pray for her and the rest of my family's conversion daily.

Martha, is there some chance that maybe she does feel a pull to the Church? That just struck me as I read your post....it seems odd that she'd come to visit you after such a long time and mention the church thing. Maybe she's feeling a longing....or is and just doesn't know it?

Here is the perfect prayer Martha and it was said for this story that happened 2 and half years ago, my uncle involved is alive and well today thanks to the intercession of Pope John Paul II.

"I had a family relative close to death in an ICU ward at the PA Hospital in Brisbane. There were emotional issues amongst some relatives that prompted other members to start praying a particular deliverance prayer for the people in the family to be freed from issues that disrupt peace and goodwill. We said it continuously throughout the day.   Part of the prayer also talks about wishing to be freed from witchcraft, spells, curses and the like, which I did not think applied in any way to our situation but we said that part of the prayer not wanting to alter it.

Later that day we went to visit my relative who was showing no sign of improvement and close to death. Coming out the ward and passing the hospital’s newsagency I wanted to go in and buy a $1 scratch-it. (This is unusual for me for I can count on one hand the times I have bought a scratch-it in the last ten years) When I was about to come out, I noticed my relative’s wife looking at some greeting cards on a card stand. I went over and saw all these lavender coloured cards with bronze medallions attached. Looking closer I noticed that some had strange patterns and markings that looked disturbing to me, whilst others had pentagrams (occultic symbol) which I recognized immediately as satanic. I opened I to see the message printed below, inside:

A talisman is an object that works by
generating positive forces to achieve its objective.
It works like self-charging batteries
and was constructed in a way that links it
with the appropriate planetary force concerned.
Faithfully reproduced from the key of Solomon,
the famous book of magical law,
written by King Solomon himself over 3000 years ago.
This talisman will ensure that the keeper
receives everlasting love and friendship.
It is extremely powerful as it contains
an ancient magic formula.
(it then asks the receiver to keep it
with them as a token of their love.)

On the back of the card it said something about “for good luck.”

I said to my relative not to touch the cards, that they were occultic, I knew this as I had just finished reading a good religious book about occultic influences and excorsims for about the third time and so it was fresh in my mind. The book had mentioned the evils of talismans and this is what it said:

The acts of so-called high magic can be classified as sacralization, consecration, blessings, destitutions excommunications, and curses. The aim of all these actions is to transform objects and people into “sacred symbols” – naturally, consecrated to Satan. The magic material is “magnetized” at specific times; these are the objectives of magic astrology. Each sorcerer wears so-called pentacles and prepares them for others as well. The names derives from the Greek “panta-klea”. They are generally medals whose symbols are “energy catalysis”. According to the sorcerer, these symbols possess a particular celestial power. A talisman is something that is meant to represent some peculiarity of the individual whom they are supposed to protect. They are the greatest attractions for the unfortunate clients who feel struck by bad luck, misunderstandings, lack of love, or poverty, and who gladly pay the price, at times exorbitant, demanded for these “lucky charms” that are supposed to free them from all their problems. Instead, these individuals bring upon themselves such a negative energy that it will damage not only them but also their entire families. Incense is used abundantly in the preparation of all these objects, as in all sorts of magic activities. This incense is offered to Satan and is clearly meant as a counterpart to the liturgical incense we offer to God.

See the similarity in the words inside the card and the exorsists explaination?

As we were walking away from the newsagency my relative's wife rummaged through her bag and pulled out a card exactly the same! She said that my uncle had given it to her for her birthday recently and that it was precious to her. She had been intending on buying a matching card to stick onto his medication stand by his bedside!

We immediately threw away the medallion and destroyed the card and prayed that they would be released from it’s evil effects, that night my uncle showed his first sign of improvement and the next day he continued to show improvement until he finally recovered which was quite miraculous, he was told afterwards that he was the sickest person in the PA Hospital at the time and they had recommended that all his close family from all around Australia to come, that how bad his original outlook was.

This card company is selling these cards for all occasions, even christenings! The company is called “The Pillbox” I feel personally that this occultic medal played it’s part in my uncle’s illness especially as this medal was was revealed to us under the most unusual circumstances - on the same day we had been praying for such occultic things to be destroyed in our lives (and we didn’t even think that part of the prayer was relevant to us!)"

(just quoting from when I wrote asking people to pray for the collapse of this card company.)

Martha, after all that here is that powerful prayer!!! It is in the back of the book, The Exorcist Tells His Story.

Prayer for Deliverance.

My Lord, you are all powerful, you are God, you are Father.
We beg you through the intercession and help of the archangels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel for the deliverance of our brothers and sisters who are enslaved by the evil one.
All saints of heaven, come to our aid.

From anxiety, sadness and obsessions,
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From hatred, fornication, envy.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From thoughts of jealousy, rage and death.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From every thought of suicide and abortion.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From every form of sinful sexuality.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From every division in our family, and every harmful friendship.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.
From every sort of spell, malefice, witchcraft, and every form of the occult.
We beg you. Free us, O Lord.

Lord, you who said, "I leave you peace, my peace I give you", grant that, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, we may be liberated from every evil spell and enjoy your peace always. In the name of Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Even though it mentions all these other sins, often our loved ones can be tied up with that too, it might have been the original opening in their lives, they need to be freed from it all.

There is a great book written by a lady who started off Catholic, entered the world of the occult through certain health practises and the talks about her incredible story of her return to the faith (her daughter and Our Lady played a part in this) and when she finally went to confession which took 16hours of naming every single occultic thing she had been a part of, this lady who had became psychic and clairvoyant through all this dabbling and was actually a great burden and distraction to her, walked out of that confession completely freed from her clairvoyant abilities, never to return!

My sister has this book, I will get back to you with the title, it might be a book worth reading or even getting them to read if they are in any way willing.

Martha,
My first thought, after reading your post is that you should have your house blessed. Chicken Lady mentioned blessed salt which would be a good thing. I hate to sound alarmist, but we need to protect our families. I would also say the prayer to St. Michael for your sister and I love the prayer Aussieannie posted above.
We have a neighbor who lives an "alternative lifestyle". We say a special prayer for her before each meal. The kids don't even know why we say it (they are too young) but it has become part of our routine. Perhaps starting something like this in your family would help your sister?

I agree with everything above. Please take your families involvment with the occult very seriously...pray hard and stay away. Their are so many stories of how bad spirits enter homes, etc, and cause problems.

Remember what Jesus said, "Some spirts can only be cast out by PRAYER and FASTING."
