Written after I showed her pictures of Colorado and we talked about how much fun it will be to live there:
High in Colorado
High in Colorado,
Where the mountains reach the sky,
There is a little house
With a stream running by.
In morning Mother cooks the sausage in a pan
And tries to sweeten up the oatmeal as best as she can.
Then the children come, and beg to play by the stream
Mother says “yes”, and the children play and dream.
Father goes to tend the crops, working all through the season.
All the children work with him, for a good reason.
If they do not work, they will have no food.
Having no food puts Mother in a grumpy mood.
So all through the day,
Through all the work and play,
Everyone is happy in the month of May
Mother and Father try to do the things that the Lord does will,
They work hard, and always pay the bills.
So in Colorado, in that little house,
From the strongest boy, to the littlest mouse,
Everyone is merry, especially at night,
For that is when they go to bed,
Underneath the stars so bright.
I love it! Especially the part about Mom being grumpy with no food. Anne is 7.5 and I worry daily about our lack of a structured language arts program!

This is great - put it to music and she could be the next John Denver here.
Looking forward to meeting you and your little poet! We'll give you a big Rocky Mountain high welcome!

That is fantastic!!!
I love the part about
"Everyone is merry, especially at night,
For that is when they go to bed,
Underneath the stars so bright."
What a happy picture she paints!!!

We read books. I'm looking into Bravewriter for the fall (she'll be starting third grade), but we are definitely unschoolish in the language arts.
