Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Question-- does anyone know where in the world I can find 84" bookcases that are attractive, yet don't have to morgage my home in order to afford???? Unfinished-- really pricey, online-- can't kick the tires, make yourself-- I don't even want to begin to tell you how long my husband's honeydo list is . . . craigslist--nothing . . .

Sorry for the rant . . . I just want to finish my living room and I need the storage! Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Anne,
Check out this thread.
I have the Expedit bookcase from Ikea and really like it.

We've had success at Lowe's and at Costco. Under $200 for 48 inch wide, 84 inch tall ones that look like furniture, not like industrial shelving.

Peace,
Nancy

I have 84" ones from IKEA too -- but not Expedit... I believe they're called Lliatrop. I got them in Woodbridge last summer with my birthday money... but I can't find the shelves on-line just a corner cabinet here:

Lliatrop

I don't know if they are out or not discontinued??? But they are 84" x 36" wide. We got two of them. They are my homeschooling shelves. They were more expensive than the 72" shelves that you can get at Staples, but they look nice and are made of real wood and particle board. They only come in off-white. And I did get them with doors on the bottom to keep some of our supplies safe from toddlers.

ETA: You know our original plan was to get Staples type shelves and then add molding to them to dress it up (until we saw these and dh gave me permission to splurg). If your dh can use a miter saw, then he wouldn't have to build shelves, just add touches??

I have the Billy ones from IKEA. They're 79" tall, but you can buy an extension that's 14". You can even install doors to hide some junk

We do this. We have three of them and I'm very happy with them.

You know, I liked the look of the Billy ones, but I couldn't figure out the extention thing, and I was just so frustrated at that point! I might have to make the trip to Woodbridge this weekend (oh, won't that be fun! ). That's really beginning to sound like a viable option!

That's a good idea, Maryan, about having dh add moulding to simple ones. That might be my plan B.

Thanks so much for the advice, Ladies!

I got some good ones at Sams a few years back. I wish we had bought another two. They ran $150ish a piece at the time...NICE bookshelves.

Another thing you can try -- ask your local library if they have any shelves they don't want or need anymore.

We got 4 of them that way. They are 8 feet tall, 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep. They are double sided, that's why they are 2 feet deep. They are solid mahogony and were $25 apiece.

They make great room dividers!
