Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How do you all manage your housework during the summer months. I am having visions of things just going to pot around here in the upcoming months. We have some really great things planned for the children, swim team, music lessons, sewing circle. Plus we want to do alot of leisure swimming, reading, camping, hiking and biking.

I don't see where our normal housework routine fits into all of this. That, and I am creeping into the third trimester and it's going to just get hotter around here.

I have been putting alot of meals up, and I haven't had to cook a dinner yet this week, and I won't next week either, that really helps out. But what about laundry, bathrooms, floors, etc...?

Ugh! I can't wait to hear what others are doing because my whole routine is shot. I feel lost without the school day. We cut out a lot of outside involvement over the summer too. I thought I'd have scads of time, but I think all I've been doing is mis-managing my time, and without my standard school day routine to fall back on I feel like I'm just getting nothing done.

I'm so frustrated! I really think I'm going to have to sit down and revisit A Mother's Rule of Life, and jot down a new one for the summer. Maybe that would help me?

I really need to hear what you guys are doing that helps with time management especially! When do you do the normal housecleaning chores now that the kids always want to be in the pool, or doing anything summery that doesn't involve chores? How do you organize your summer projects?

Yes, summer is approaching, and the house is not always as clean as in the winter. The time we used to spend on cleaning indoors will be spent on yard work and gardening. My kids help with lighter chores, and they still have to do them IN THE MORNING before we do anything else. That is what works for me. If I tell them the chores can wait until later, they won't get done unless I do them.

I also went through the house this winter and truly cleaned and purged alot of (dare I say it?) junk. That really helped in terms of how much cleaning I need to do.

I actually have an easier time in the summer.. if you clean up from meals immediately after them... the rest of the stuff keeps you outside and so the house stays clean

I help this along by putting away all inside toys (except the baby toys) so that there is that much less inside and things won't get scattered and then the kids head out hte door leaving a greater mess.

I totally agree, lol.

and we tend to eat on paper more often and grill.

also, I usually do chores and cleaning on one day and leave the rest for fun and sun. normally it would get spread through out the week.

bathrooms and floors can be done just before bed..

put up a clothesline so towels and swimsuits just get hung up and reused vs piling up as laundry (rinse the suits of course)

As I sit amid the shambles.

We have been putting in grass seed to repair the area where the water line and drains are for the new barn, cleaning out the goat and sheep stalls, , and putting in the rest of the garden. I know there are more projects on the "outside" list.

My husband says not to worry about it until it rains, but it makes me crazy to have the kitchen messy.

I do try fitting cleaning in around meal time. During projects I come in first to start meal prep and stay in longest to tidy. When we grill I grill extra vegetables for use later in pasta salads and to serve on sandwiches, the pasta for that salad is the left over from the pasta dinner--I try to double up as much as possible.

Following a very simple Flylady routine helps because I focus on a simple daily and weekly routine. When the weather is inclemant I do my zone stuff.

Any other ideas would be great so I do not end up in this mess.

I too find cleaning easier .the kids wear far less clothes then in winter so loads are less .
I use the clothes line instaed of dryer and its so theraputic I love hanging wash
meals can be done on BBQ and we eat way more fruit , vegies etc.
Cleaning well I'll still vacum & mop but dusting is out the window plus I actually find it less dusty with all the windows open .Must be blowing around the house instaed of settling
We don't do any lessons except sometimes swimming lessons out at the lake . This is the first yr. we'll have sent a kid to camp! its scary and exciting all at the same time .
I'm so glad summer is not a stressed out time for me as if it were I'd be in rough shape .dh works seasonal so summer is his most busy time and often not home till well after 10pm .
I love summer we have fires almost every day in our firepit and walk to the park drive to the lake etc.
I will tell you I go mad come nearing end of lent . cleaning and shucking stuff out . I do not like collecting stuff it holds me down . Am I ever a catholic and a missionary eh it drives dh nuts but he also says he could never do it .He is a clutter bug
I think it is good to do it at lent as its still freezing out side .I never liked spring cleaning much as I want to be outside come springtime .
Simplicity is the only way for me to not be messy . some of us especially if you are maybe ADD or easily distracted need to stay simple . Do not over complicate things that includes adding items into it
I truely am aiming for the having just what I need and not what I want . I do hope to be able to get to the point where I could live out of a packback as when we were younger .As I get older I gradually added so much junk .Like the bigger purse syndrome
I love chucking stuff out now .
We actually have made quite a bit of money online selling our stuff and the hs fair is coming up we're hoping to sell more . Having a yardsale in june always helps too .The kids make lemonade and popcorn to sell .Its really fun time . I might even do face paints
You got mess , you got junk chuck it out
Oh don't forget freecycle .It is wonderful .
Much Love , Roxie
