Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

btw how do you do quotes the "right" way- i cant figure it out

Press the 'quote' box in the post you want to quote. The whole post will then appear in your 'post reply' box. Delete anything you don't need, taking care to leave the commands in square brackets which include 'QUOTE'.

I took a while to work it out, then was very pleased with myself when I could!

CGS has a wonderfully meditative Pentecost celebration. The center of the celebration is the Paschal Candle and seven red candles, each representing a gift of the Holy Spirit (so labeled). There is a procession, change of the prayer cloth from white to red; Bible verse readings, singing; and then each child goes in turn to the prayer table to light his candle from any one of the seven gifts.

I haven't done it with the children yet, but it was simply beautiful when we did it during our training.

This is my Apostle display and Mary G.'s version.

I love it! Both you & Mary G. (& your kiddos of course!) did a wonderful job!

It's a little late, but I posted the Pentecost section from "Around the Year with the Trapp Family", including the little hymn.

Moira's 3-6 notebook does not have a Pentecost lesson, so I have been trying to pull together something with my clothspin Apostles. I figured I would just walk through the story--need to make little flames and use sticky tape, I think--and then have some reflection/wondering questions. I've been trying to come up with those, but haven't yet.

Some thoughts for activities:
--blindfold "trust" walk to remind us that the Spirit of Truth guides the Church even when we as individuals don't have any idea where we're going
--Church as Body of Christ--perhaps trace a body and then consider/write/draw ways we can be a hand/foot/etc. Or use wooden cutout from craft store as a meditation aid.
--Church as Bride of Christ--I like people's ideas of looking at wedding pictures. Perhaps a wondering question about how much a husband loves his wife and what that tells us about Jesus' love for us....

Yes, that's all the text. But the ASCII text can't display graphics. I've been trying to share some of the music and some pictures on the blog.

I've tried to create .pdf files for the music, so you could easily print those off and insert them in your printed pages.

There is also a Table of Contents, a static page, that has links of all the parts I have uploaded. I've tried to make it as user friendly as possible.

Using the Novena that Alice sent along through her Loreto Cottage I think we might craft a bracelet similar to the rosary bracelets.

O Holy Spirit, who descended upon the Apostles and filled them with power and wisdom, watch over me and guide
me in all my thoughts and acts. Never let me forget to call on you whenever I need help. Amen.

O Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, come into our hearts, shed the brightness of Your light on all nations, that they may
be one in faith and pleasing to You.

Five Our Father's, Hail Mary's and Glory be to the Father's

Five Our Father beads - large multi-colored lamp glass beads
Five Hail Mary beads - swirled blues
Five Glory Be's - sparkly white

I think it'll look terrific!

Don't forget Cay's Pentecost picture book The Twelve Apostles from The Catholic Mosaic. The picture book is beautiful and Cay's discussion questions in The Catholic Mosaic are as wonderful as ever.

I didn't see this link yet. The Catholic Cuisine site is new to me...though I see some members here are contributors.

Anyone made Holy Ghost Sopas before?

I haven't made it myself, but have had it at my in-laws. It is a favorite of my father-in-law who is Portuguese. I will verify that the Holy Ghost festivals (festas) and sopas is a very big deal to the Portuguese. They laugh at me since I can't really do the soggy bread - queasy stomach for that. The flavor is great though.

Massa Sovada (Portuguese sweet bread) is a big part of the festa, too. I could post my mil's recipe if anyone is interested.

Another cute idea that I saw at a friend's home...

She blew up red balloons and on each one wrote a gift of the Spirit with black marker. She then suspended them around her kitchen taping them upside down to her ceiling to recall the tongues of fire coming down on the Apostles...it looked so fun and festive!
