Hi, I'd like to start cooking porridge in the slow cooker overnight, but I don't have a receipe for it. Does anyone make this and have the measurements for everything (US measurements are fine, I can make the conversion)
Many thanks!

Or maybe I should be asking how many cups of water to a cup of oats? I imagine that it might need more water than usual if you are cooking it in a slow cooker...

You might try this recipe for crock pot oatmeal. I haven't tried it, only because most of my family don't eat oatmeal/porridge. The recipe is a little more than halfway down the page.

Dear Nicole,
Thank you! A ratio of 1 to 4, that sounds about right - I'm making it tonight due to your quick posting!
Many thanks, Anne

When I make oatmeal in the crockpot, I cook it on high for about 1 hour, turn it off & then let it sit over night. I find that it gets easily overcooked.
Let us know how it turns out!

I have never had much luck in the crock-pot, so I began just soaking them on the stove overnight, then in the morning I turn it on medium and cook them for about 15 minutes. I sometimes add raisens or other dried fruit while it soaks and it gets plump and juicy by morning.

Steel cut oats seem to work much better in the crockpot overnight.
Unfortunately, few of my children have liked crockpot breakfasts.

My only advice when it comes to crockpot porridge/oatmeal is don't use a metal crock pot that has recently been used for pot roast unless you enjoy pot roast flavored oatmeal! Bleck!
I've never tried it with a stone crock. I am sure yours will turn out yummy!

Thank you all for the different methods, I will try them all and find what works best, but I did make it yesterday morning and it was a little runny (still nice) so I will cut down just a little, on some of the water and we should be right! I'll just tweak and tweak, and continue to experiment until I come up with the Annie beakfast speciality!
So funny though! - I've just found out a new baby is on the way and so this means I need to stop eating the carbs and go back to a protein morning breakfast - my body seriously complains about carbs in pregnancy.
So when I made my chicken casserole last night, I made extra and there is a little of it sitting in the fridge for me to heat up this morning, but everyone else will enjoy the fruits of the advice given, over the months to come - thank you!
