Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Having enough shelves to easily display all the puzzles/activites can be a challenge as well as costly.

I understand that Montessori uses natural materials (and these are MDF)... but the sale is a good one! (Although if you hit garage sales, I'm sure you could find them cheaper)

But for what it's worth -- check out...

Staples

My thought was to get the $15 shelves (or the taller $20 shelves) (I'm going to get white), go to Home Depot and buy a few melamine boards and pegs to add another shelf or two. Since I don't want to put books on them AND I don't want to stack the puzzles, trays, etc. If I add a 3rd or 4th shelf, I can maximize my space.

Just sharing an idea...

Oh... and if you order $50 in merchandise, Staples will deliver to your door. Way better than going in with my boys!! So I get two small shelves, then I add any ink cartridges, computer paper, etc. and it ships for free! And quickly too!

And their 72" inch shelves are also on sale for $25...

I only buy MDF at half price or at garage sales!

I think your idea sounds great. I have used similar shelves from Target and have been very pleased....EXCEPT for the very tallest shelves (72"). They don't feel very sturdy.

Thanks for the info Maryan.

I have been trying to set up for the new baby in a Montessori style. (I am thinking of starting a new thread on creating Montessori spaces in small houses). Anyway - I have been reading my Michael Olaf catalog - and I think I may have found a cheaper subsititute for the First Shelf - it is a new Target item - not on the website. I have not found the energy to go back this week to check on it - but when I do I will let you know - it really does look like the First Shelf.

As I type here in my finished basement there are four sets of those tall 72" bookshelves to my right jam packed with lots of books and curriculum. They are not the sturdiest shelves in the universe but I like them because the peg system allows for terrific flexibility especially when trying to house those beautiful but oversized art appreciation books. My husband bolted them to studs in the wall and I think he even bolted them to each other which helped give them the sturdiness we wanted them to have. They pack a huge volume of books into a small neat space. They look great! You won't regret it.
