My son Johnathan's battalion commander, Lt. Col. Gadson, was killed sometime during the last few days. I believe it was an IED because John said seeing the truck was a "reality check" and that he has pictures of the truck.

John said he is OK and that it "didn't really bother him" but I can tell by the language he is using and what he is saying that it is REALLY bothering him. He attended a service for the Cmdr yesterday.

This was the first major casualty for the battalion since they arrived in February. The only other "casualty" was a minor shrapnel injury and the guy was back on the job the next day.

Please pray for the Lt. Col., his family, and for Johnathan.

EDIT: I spoke with John this morning (Wednesday). He said that it happened Monday evening. The Cmdr was on his way back from a memorial service for another soldier in another unit when they hit an IED. The interpreter was injured and the Cmdr was killed but everyone else was fine.

John's First Sgt was there and picked up the Lt. Col. and put him in another vehicle and rushed him to the hospital but it was too late. His seat took the blast and he really didn't have a chance.

It was not in an area that John normally patrols (Thank YOU, God) but he has been down that road a couple times.
