Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

and your dd's were receiving their confirmation at a NO mass, would you still have them veil, knowing that you will be the only ones?

Definitely. I wear a veil to Novus Ordo Masses anyway.

I guess it depends on why you wear a veil... I know many folks who do and regardless of what all else are doing, they would wear the veil because of their beliefs. Does that help?

If we were a veiling family, then that would not change due to the kids being "the only ones." However, at Confirmation, the girls would become adults in the faith and I would personally leave veiling up to them at that point, having explained to them all the reasons why veiling is important to me.

(This is all hypothetical as I do not currently veil. I have thought about it, though.)

We do veil. At any Mass. It's the same Lord. But I agree that it might too much to ask of a teen to stand out that way if she is uncomfortable with it.

Do your dd's have an opinion? We wear hats (though not all the time) to the NO mass.. and other than the occational older woman.. we're it. And I think there is a middle age woman who wears a veil at times.. here all we get is positive comments.. so we would.

But as someone above said.. it would really depend on why you wear the veil.

Well we ARE the only ones who veil at our NO parish so my answer would obviously be yes.

FYI sidenote: Confirmation does not make us adults in the Church. Our Bishop spoke on this a few weeks ago at my son's confirmation. He said it was "bad theology" but it's a common misconception that I too have heard for years.

Rather, Confirmation fulfills our Christian initiation. It completes our baptism and brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace.

Also,
- it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!";

- it unites us more firmly to Christ;

- it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us;

- it renders our bond with the Church more perfect;

- it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross:
(CCC 1302)

But, as Bishop Kevin stressed, they are still adolescents - in and out of the Church.

Just had to share. It was a GREAT homily!

God bless!

I would say yes also. I veil most of the time (I just started recently and have a hard time remembering sometimes!).

Have they been wearing a veil anyway?

I would say, since veiling is a personal conviction rather than an intrinsic moral issue: if it will bother your daughters to be the only ones, and they will be thinking more about that than about the sacrament, then I wouldn't make them. We have a family story of a child focused on her headgear rather than the sacrament, and she only has bad memories of receiving that sacrament.

Or I should say, there is no canonical obligation to wear veils.

Yes- i do personally but even if I didnt I would have my dd's do it for FHC. it is supposed to be special

I never wore anything growing up (rarely was taken to church actually ) but my mon still had me wear one for FHC. it is family tradition to wear your mothers wedding veil.
