This may be a very silly question (my second of the day!), but here goes:
I have a recipe that I would like to try that calls for toasted wheat germ. I have searched for it in our Superwalmart several times and could not find it. I have no clue what aisle it would be in! Do they sell "toasted wheat germ," or do I just look for "wheat germ" and then have to toast it myself? If you've bought it before, please tell me what area you found it in!
Or maybe someone could suggest a substitute.

regular wheat germ should be near the flour.. and I'm not sure but I think if you look at it.. it's probably toasted/roasted/whatever it just doesn't say so in big letters.

When I have purchased toasted wheat germ it was near the oatmeal in the cereal isle....in a glass jar.

It should be in the baking aisle or the cereal aisle, but not all stores have them. Your natural food store should have it though. It looks like this:
wheat germ
and is available toasted or not toasted.
Bob's Red Mill also makes it:

Now I know what I'm looking for and where to look for it. I know I've searched around the flour and the baking aisle, so now I'll try looking around by the cereals...or maybe I'll have to ask a Walmart employee. They're always so happy and helpful, you know!

The wheat germ at the regular supermarket or Walmart will be toasted, I believe, even if you don't see it in big letters. These are the 2 brands that we find around here (I think they are both actually from Quaker Oats)...

My kids love wheat germ, Jane! (See the top photo of the two that Jen posted--that's what we get and yes, it's in the cereal aisle by the Quaker Instant Oats and whatnot.)
Anyway, they will go so far as to dig it out of the fridge on their own in order to add it to their yogurt or sprinkle it on their bananas.
Yummy stuff. Tremendously good for you, to boot.

A quick additional wheat germ recipe...we make chicken nuggets by rolling cooke chicken pieces in raw honey and sprinkling them wit wheat germ, then popping them in the oven until they are warm and toasty. You can make a large batch and freeze them too!

BTW, the Wheat Germ is always on the top shelf -- I guess it's not one of those cozy sweet cereals they want the kids to buy on their way past in a cart

That's so you HAVE to see EVERYTHING when all you came in for was a bottle of milk....I've often ended up with a +$100 grocery bill doing this

Or you end up like my husband, who once went to the store for milk - just milk - and came back with 6 things and no milk. Now I write him a shopping list, no matter how few items are on it!
