Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all...

I did something to my back when I was trying to carry Clara on my back last Thursday. I aggravated the injury yesterday when I tried to do some housework...bad idea, I should have just rested and left the mess alone.

I have been alternating hot and cold packs on my back today and trying to rest as much as possible. I "let" dh get all the dc ready for church and I am staying home and resting.

I am thinking of going to a chiropractor on Monday if it's not a whole lot better by then...but I've never had an adjustment before. How do I know if this is something a chiropractor can help with? What can I expect at the visit? Will I have to go back several times before it gets better? I am kind of skeptical about chiropractic care...my parents always said that chiropractors were quacks...but I'm getting kind of desperate here! I'm open to seeing a chiropractor, I just want to know that I'm not throwing my money away.

This happened when I was pregnant w/ Clara, too...but my back was a lot better within a day or two of resting and putting hot and cold packs on it. The pain is across my lower back, across my pelvis.    Any exercises, stretches I can do to strengthen my back and prevent this in the future?

Right now, I cannot take care of my household duties. Dh goes back to work on Tuesday and I have a 33-lb. 3yo and a 15-lb. infant who need regular diaper changes. HELP!

Dawn

chiropractor can help if your back alignment is messed up.. if you pulled a muscle or such it won't (unless your back isn't aligned and that's aggrevating it)

As far as going back several times.. it depends on your back.. when your back is out of alignment the muscles can get used to it.. and want to go back to the bad alignment so that after the chiropractor adusts it.. it'll slip back out.. and you go back multiple times to keep your back in place enough for the muscles to get used to it again and hold it in place instead of pulling it back out.

I've heard people who felt chiropractors were "quacks" because of that.. but if you think of it as partially retraining your muscles then it makes sense that one time won't do it.

I've had a wonderful experience with a chiropractor.. just like docs some are better than others.. and wish I could afford it again at times.

I hurt my back recently, too. Last time I went to my doc and she said it often can take several weeks to heal. For me it took about 3 weeks to feel right again. She gave me Vicodin and I took it for awhile, but what really helped was Ibuprofen-800mgs, staying off my feet, and no lifting. This was so hard with my 3 yo and toddler with diapers to change! This time it is not as bad, so I won't be going to the doc, but taking the Ibuprofen is working well. It just really takes time-much longer than is convenient.
