Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I happened to pick up this book by Marguerite de Angeli at the library because I liked the illustrations. What a treasure! I read it aloud to dd's (8,6,4) and they loved it even though the main character is a boy, actually most of the characters are males! Great for English history and culture ( set in 14th century England) as well as a beautiful examples of growing up!

Just thought I'd pass on my enthusiam for this book!

In His Mercy,
Karen S.

We like it and there are other books by her just as great, including a sequal (I think?) to that one.

Sorry! Door in the Wall is the ONLY book she ever wrote with a setting outside the united states. My mistake.. I was thinking of The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman (similiar time period) and which sits right next to Door in the Wall on my bookshelf.
