Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am on the library website and trying to pick books(and maybe a video or two) for our study of these creatures this spring. HELP!! I am sure some of you can tell me your kids' favorite books and help me narrow down my list
Also, we are planning on going down to our creek soon to look for some salamanders. Is it the right time? Think we will find some? I am sure we will have fun even if not--getting dirty is "normal" on our stay home days here

Oh, my kiddos are 9 and 4. Thanks for your help.

Anne,

Here is a link to a post I did recently on salamanders. It has links to salamander books/activities. Hope this is helpful.

Nice, Marjorie! Great photos, too.

Anne,

An interesting side-study on salamanders includes literary allusions to salamander mythology. Look for salamanders to be associated with fire in some fairy tale or fantasy books.

Ah -- like Lewis' The Silver Chair. I had no idea that there was a whole mythology. I'll have to check that out. We're studying salamanders right now too!

Here are some ideas to go with Salamander Room (which is a really cute book, BTW).

If your kids like crafts, Crafts for Kids Who are Wild About Reptiles has some ideas that can be modified to create salamanders.

I like the books Frogs, Toads, Lizards, and Salamanders and Salamanders by Emery and Durga Bernhard for the younger kids.

Two poetic and beautifully illustrated books that include hummingbirds: Hummingbird Nest
and
Birds Build Nests (Yvonne Winer has a similar book about Frogs and one on spiders too.).
