Hi! I'm still feeling my way around here, and I am not sure if this is the proper forum for my question, but here we go ...
I am looking for ideas for using the Holling C. Holling books (Seabird, Paddle-to-the-Sea, Minn of the Mississippi, A Tree in the Trail, Pagoo). I know they are commonly associated with geography, but I am hoping to explore the science and nature themes present in each of the stories as well.
I would love to hear how others have used these books with their children ~ besides just enjoying them together as great literature
Thanks so much.

I'll be looking for ideas too. I just picked up Minn of the Mississippi today. I'll post anything I can think of.

We are slowly working our way through these using the Beautiful Feet guide. Although geography is a focus there has also been lots of work on nature and science topics. I know that some are leary of the Beautiful Feet materials, but I have not found anything questionable about this set.
Blessings!

You know, I think I might actually have that BF guide around here somewhere!
I have had these books for a long time, and my oldest has read one or two on his own, but this will be the first time we've really used them as a family, as part of a lesson.
What excited me about these books, besides the fact that they are so beautiful to read, is that as a single resource they offer so much -- great literature, great geography (we happen to be devoting next year to American history) and, it seems to me, lots of neat science to be explored as well ...

Hi Dawn,
I found a couple of sites that might be helpful when using the Holling books.
Lesson plans for Paddle to the Sea
Supplemental websites for the Holling books

I must admit to being selfish - I did the search as I didn't want to spend money on the BF guides!

I'm bumping this because we are about to start US history and I thought I'd use these books.
Can someone please refresh my memory about the negatives of Beautiful Feet? PM is fine.
Can someone also tell me what all is in the beautiful feet guide? A link with samples by any chance?
TIA!
