Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It seems silly, but I really need the Holy Spirit on this one.

We have been part of a coop going on 3 years now. My two oldest have 3 friends, all in the same age range of 11-12 that are a part of it. The past few months have been so trying. And I'm feeling so discouraged. I hate to single out anyone, but one girl in particular has been the source of so much strife and bad feelings. Every time they get together one or both of my daughters comes away angry or hurt. I have tried speaking to her mother (my 11 yo was in tears that day)but she is basically lied and manipulated her mother (a lovely woman, trying very hard with a non-Christian husband to raise her children in the faith)and took no responsibility for her actions. I know some of this is how girls this age can be, but these things hurt me deeply as a child and my oldest is so sensitive and tender-hearted. There's more, but I don't want to rant.

I just need the Holy Spirit and all those great gifts (wisdom, counsel, understanding) to help me sort through how to proceed and what to say.

Maria,

We have had to deal with this with 2 different girls with my 2 older girls but not in a coop setting - just at various hs functions.

One of the girls totally manipulates all adults - she knows how to be very polite around them but when their backs are turned - she behaves very meanly.

In dealing with this child, I told my children that we must pray for her first. I also validated what my girls said because I was able to see this child's behavior. Additionally, I gave my children things to say to assert themselves - one of mine is not naturally assertive and takes EVERYTHING to heart. I also told them that it was okay to walk away from her if she was being rude -

In the other situation, again, I encouraged prayer - but this family moved away and the girl is now in school. Our contact with them is very limited, now....so it's not as severe as an issue....

I hope this helps, Maria. Situations like these are disappointing to have to deal with but in showing our children how to handle these things, we're giving them tools.

Prayers, coming!

Praying, Maria. I have an 11 year old daughter as well and know the pain this causes when it happens.
