Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We've been on a Veggie Tales binge over here, and a few of the videos use G&S elements, which reminded me how much I like it.

I'd like to introduce Gilbert and Sullivan into our music repetoire. Are there recordings you recommend? Books and Videos to support?

Thanks in advance!

Our old library had a number of picture books , based on G & S stories. They were a great help when introducing the youner ones to G & S - we are big G & S fans!

I can find the titles if you'd like...

When we started to share Oklahoma! (the video) with our kids ... I did NOT like it. Can't remember exactly why. There were some wierd things going on in it that I didn't remember seeing when I watched it as I was growing up. Preview it with your husband.

My 11 yod and I just watched The King and I. I didn't remember that he died at the end.

Can't remember any others off-hand.

We really like this version of the Pirates of Penzance. It's a live performance, not the movie version. We watched both and thought the live one was so much better than the movie. The cast just feeds off the audience, especially during Modern Major General. I just checked and Netflix has the stage version as well as many other G & S operettas.

We also have this CD. The boys like to listen to the selections of the Mikado because they know the songs form the Veggie Tales Sumo of the Opera.

We have a children's book version of HMS Pinafore by Opal Wheeler that is very good. Pirates, boats, the Navy, all go over well with my boys, so Gilbert and Sullivan has been a great way to introduce "opera-lite"
