'Just wondering if anyone else who is a mom has had problems with abdominal muscle problems. During my sixth pregnancy I felt a ripping feeling (accompanied with pain) in my abdominal wall, higher up on my left side. I was carrying a load of laundry at the time and twisted to see something. I mentioned it to my midwife, but it got better on it's own after a few days.
I also felt at one point this same pain in the same place during my next pregnancy, but only after overdoing it some.
I am not pg at this point, that I know of, but the pain is back, I should describe it as discomfort here, as it is mildly bothersome. Did you do anything to try to strengthen these muscles after pregnancy?

I was asking a friend recently since she knows more about this than I do.. and she said most of the exercises you'd think about would work (crunches etc.. one she told me was planking? basically like a push up but you're on your elbows and you hold the position for as long as you can for repetitions.. wow that works everything in your middle).. but that if you have any abdominal seperation to NOT do exercises that involves twisting at your middle.

I have a postpartum video that has you "splint" your abs by crossing your arms across your middle and holding them firmly while doing crunches. She says this helps the disconnected muscles "find" each other.
I don't think I have done it enough, because my abs still haven't found each other a year later.
I hope you find something that works!

I had a similar thing happen way back during my third pregnancy - about 11 years ago. It felt like someone slit a knife down the side of me. It would hurt during every pregnancy & when I carried my babies around. My Dr. thought it was a small hernia. I asked my chiropractor about it about 6 months ago. He worked on that area and said the muscles were all bound up. He worked it out and I put heat on it that night. I haven't felt the tenderness at all since then. (I'm 19 weeks pregnant too!) I think the treatment worked. He also said I don't have a hernia. Thank the good Lord.
