Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know we discussed the ways we feel different from "regular" home school moms, and I am wondering about this more.

What, exactly, does a day look like at your house when you are in the trenches with a child who is really having issues? We try to do school in the morning, and the afternoons are for playing and getting basic living chores done.

We have been in survival/intense therapy mode for 2 weeks and I am feeling very down about what has/has not gotten accomplished in school; both for the radish and the other children. Having just started home schooling, and moving to a new state (both in Dec.), I find myself comparing us to the seasoned home school families and we are not "stacking up!" How do you get everything done learning-wise, while at the same time spending massive amounts of time and energy on therapy (at home and at the therapist's office)?

I know we can and ought to do more, but right now I am so very exhausted. What are your ways of getting through these times? How do you keep up the school work for all of the kids?

Hi Miss Liz,
Well, my little one who I work so hard on with attachment issues is only three, though a bright child who likes to learn. Her constant noise and chatter in a small, echoey house is enough to get me to sometimes wear headphones throughout the day...the kind used for target shooting. The constant noise is irksome to my teenagers too while they are trying to work. We just try to use that hour of quiet time while she is napping to work on school. Every RAD child should have an hour of quiet in their room, right? Hmm. That's not much time though. Personally, I think if I set my mind to it I could spend every day for the rest of my life on working with her and that would leave my other children out of it. So, the techniques I use with her to help her through the attachment issues are just going to have to be put aside on school days. That's the only way it's going to work.   Sometimes, I get this overwhelming desire to send her away during the days to have time with the others. I would never do it but I do think of it sometimes. She's such a busy child, it's hard though. I feel for you. I guess this post wasn't much help...I am just thinking along the same lines as you. -BlessedBGod, also in North Carolina. Are you going to a RAD therapist in Greenville? There's not too many around in North Carolina, is there? JMJ
