Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

where the o's go? or hearts over the i's?

I realized we just dropped learning how to form letters this year (kindergarten) between pegnancy and new baby ive been lucky to find time to just snuggle and read.

but i noticed all the writing dd does (a lot independently-little love notes, books etc...) has inconsistent letter forms, sizes etc so i thought we'd step back and start working with a begining handwriting book and doing some simple copy work.

Well, Holy Holy Holy looks like
H oly,H oly,H oly,

not to mention all the little hearts and flowers in her name. Should i ignore this or address it.

Also its funny she reads very well but when she first did her copy work she read it then she re-wrote it phoneticaly- holy became hle. Even though it was right in front of her.

any thoughts?

thanks maggie

Hi Maggie,

We don't get smiley faces but we do get hearts.

I haven't been having her do much copywork lately just due to this season in our life, but I think I'll let her do it when she writes letters to her pen pals and for fun stuff and just ask her to do the copywork straight.

I don't know if that helps....

I think this is a natural and normal stage many girls go through. She is starting to develop her own handwriting style. I wouldn't worry. By the time she finds the style that truly fits her, all those little "extras" will have been dropped. I would let her do it in her "fun writing" but encourage her to keep it out of all formal school assignments.

If she's still doing it when she's 25, I would start to worry.

No, seriously -- My girls have done this, and I have just requested, for formal writing that they don't do all the embellishments. But when they're writing letters, notes, whatever, just for fun, it's fine with me.
