Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Now that it is springtime, I am wanting to get my kids outside and take some nature walks on our local trails and in natural park areas. We've done this before with dh, but I'm nervous about taking the kids by myself. These areas probably aren't as populated during the week, and I'm concerned about the very remote possiblity of wierdos lurking in the forest. You hear stories about female joggers being attacked on trails every so often. I tend to have an overactive imagination. What safety precautions do you all take on your nature walks?

I'm not really worried about wild animals, other than coyotes, who are regularly spotted in our part of the country. What if one of my littles got too far away from me? Maybe I'm going to wait for dh and do this on the weekends only.

I would take the same precautions that you would take when walking with littles in the mall or any other public place: keep them in sight at all times.

I take my cell phone, keep the kids within sight and stay aware of things going on around us. Most of the places we hike are pretty open so you can see things. I also look anyone we pass in the eye with a friendly but "don't mess with us" hello--though most people I meet seem to be fine-no one has scared us yet. I also have my hand on the cell when we get near people and ds knows how to call for help if something happens to me. Oh, and I take the dog too!! It is kind of nice to have places to yourself during the week. I like it mostly to let the dog off leash (if she is listening that particular day) to run off some energy and not potentially bother someone....
Try it, you may get over your fears and enjoy it..
