Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sam just finished the Just So Story class over on Bravewriter. It's sort of cute so I thought I'd share it here.

Sam LaVictoire

How the turtle got it shell.

Once open a time, when time, space, and animals were just being created, there was one animal that was so fast that before you could see it, (if you could see it at all) it would run you over and be gone in the blink of an eye. The animal’s name was Turtle.   Back then the turtle looked as white as the stars in the sky because color did not stick to him (its real color was back behind him about ten miles trying to catch up). Its back was so bare and shiny that most people saw the turtle from the reflection of the sun on his back. The problem was that the turtle would not listen to any animal because they talked too slowly and he did not have the patience to listen to them. All he would say was, “Hush I am in a rush,” and then he would run off with out even a glance back.

One day there was a rabbit. He was so happy to be created because he looked so great with his little ears and his straight teeth. While the rabbit was jumping a round he saw a little white streak that was the turtle. When the rabbit saw the streak he screamed out in horror “Oh no the tur...” Just as he said that, the turtle ran right over him with out even a glance back.

The rabbit got up from out of the dirt with a sore back and tender ears. He noted that his ears were much longer than normal and could he could suddenly hear from as far as a mile away. Then he noted that his teeth were larger then beetles and could bite as hard as a shark. Then he noticed that he now had big ears and buck teeth! He was so mad that he plotted revenge on the turtle and came up with an evil plan.

First the rabbit put glue on the side of the hill. When the turtle ran over the glue he became stuck right on the spot. While the turtle stood there struggling, the rabbit rolled the rock from the tip top of the hill down to the turtle who timidly tried to move from the tumbling terrible rock but trembled to see the rock roll right in front of him.

So the turtle, still trying to get out of the glue, looked back and saw a green dot. WHAMM!!   The turtle’s color ran right into him and pushed him into the big rock so hard that they rolled for a mile or two. When they stopped the turtle was green, stuck under a rock, and tired. The rabbit still on the hill said, “That will teach you to run over poor defenseless rabbits!”

From that day on, the color finally stuck to the turtle, who now would have to take slow steady paces to keep from being crushed by the rock. All that rolling had smoothed the surface of the rock. After many years the rock became shell shaped. One is placed on all turtles before they are born to keep them from running into rabbits and so the turtles have to listen to folks even if they talk slowly.
