Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I'm pulling my hair out here. Is there an emoticon for that!

Can someone give me a rundown of CM's ideas on these subjects. A how-to and when to implement is what I'm looking for. In my ideal homeschool we would write about whatever we are learning in History and Science and learn our grammar and spelling from that. So everything would be intergrated. Not so much busy work with workbooks etc.

Can anyone tell me how they've done this?

Also how have you used IEW with CM?

Thanks so much!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I am not an expert on CM but I *do swear by her ideas re copywork, dictation, narration, as a the mainstay of a language arts programme. Coupled with good books, too, of course.

We have bought a couple of LA programmes over the years and, while they do act as resources, we have never been able to use a programme - it just never fits!

We always end up with CM's ideas re copywork, dictation, narration. More copywork and narration than anything else. Plus letter writing and we often write/make a homemade book each year. Keeping a journal and a nature journal have been helpful, too.

And these get extended in high school for essays, grammar, etc.

I find that spelling, handwriting, grammar, punctuation and usage, vocabulary, writing skills in general, are learned more easily and more naturally through CM's ideas.

Ambleside Online has a good rundown of CM's ideas for language arts.
