Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I haven't been able to find a post about helping Jr.High children interpret poetry passages....Help! We are using The Harp And Laurel Wreath by Laura Berquist but would like to be able to understand the Dialectical Stage selections a little better.

Does anyone know of any books, websites, info. to help interpret Shakespeare and other poets?

Thanks for any guidance!

Dear Tiffany,
There are several great books on Shakespeare by Catholics, showing his catholicism. Peter Milward is one author who is worth looking at. Clare Asquith's book on Shakespeare "Shadowplay" is astounding!
These I'd recommend for highschool or you in understanding it.

On a slightly younger level, I have used Peter Leithart's Shakespeare book, "Brightest Heaven of Invention," and the one on Dante called "Ascent to love."
These are pretty good, and even though he is a Protestant, they have a decent sense of sacramentality.

CHC also offers some companion books on Karol Wojtyla's poetry and TS Eliot's murder in the Cathedral. I have another one from that series and they are good.

Thomas Howard has written a book on TS Eliot's 4 Quartets and he is a wonderful writer and deep thinker. (A lovely man too!)

Into Deep Eternity, is about Emily Dickinson's poetry -- I haven't read it yet, but it looks very good.

hth.
Blessings,
CK

CK-Thank you so much for the great information! I truly appreciate it. I have seen the CHC companion books so it's nice to hear you have enjoyed the series.

Blessings!
