Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I found this thread while searching for an answer to my question. Theresa listed a website for bird calls.

Does anyone know of a similar website that shows PICTURES of the birds instead of just the word, for my pre-readers?

Well, it's not listed nicely like these, but if you go to whatbird.com and search or browse for the bird you want, many of them have a picture on the bird's page plus a place to click to hear the birdsong.

Suzanne,

We have been studying birdsong/calls all winter and LOVE it! All About Birds , a Cornell site, is excellent because you can select a species, see photos and facts and then click on "Play Sound from this Species". You will not only hear the call but also see a sonograph of the call.

I would also highly recommend BIrding By Ear: A Guide to Bird-song Identification. It is a 3 CD set (on super sale at Amazon) that teaches you how to recognize 88 bird calls. My kids love to listen to this in the car. It is my very favorite CD purchase in years. Maybe you can get it from your library to try it.   Happy birding!

whoo-hoo! My 5 and 6 year old are both able to navigate both of the "whatbird" and "All about birds" sites pretty much by themselves. that's what i was looking for.....something for them to SEE, then Click..they were constantly calling me in to "find the finch" or whatever.....which really wasn't the point of introducing that activity !!!

Our Wild Birds Unlimited store also recommended the "Birding by ear" CD.....and I know they have it there, so I'll listen to it. I love hearning about people's "Favorite purchases in years".....i take those VERY seriously!

Thanks everyone!
